Pope Benedict XVI names four new saints. Sister Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception is 1st Indian woman saint. Canonization comes as India's Christians increasingly object of attacks. It's nice that the Roman Catholic church canonizes women. Wouldn't it be nice if it also gave woman positions in authority?

That is great to hear. yes it would be great of woman could hold places of authority in the Roman Catholic Church. Maybe someday they might or lets hope they will.

While the Catholic Church holds that men and women are equal, but different, the voice of women cannot be heard among those who make decisions and set policy. I do believe the Church would do well to give more respect to women. After all, every man in the Priesthood only got here because of the sacrifices of a woman.

I would not like to go into the argument whether woman should go into priesthood or not. It is a delicate subject whichone has to deal from a theological point of view and it is boring for most of my lotters. I think that the chruch should do a lot more to appreciate the contribution of women in the catholic church.
