Besides the language most spoken in your country, which language is 2nd?

I live in the USA. The second language most spoken is Spanish. I know French. My husband speaks English, French, Arabic and some Spanish. The second to benefit me would Arabic because my in-laws Speak Arabic. There are a lot of Muslims in England so French and Arabic would be the other languages to know there. French is best to know in Canada. What is your major? Spanish?

the native language of my country is Hindi as i m from india....besides this languages there are many other languages spoken here but the next to hindi is english according to me...because english has been a world language n most of the proffesional work are done in english only...so english is the second language in my country!!! I am also American. You are right. There are so many people that speak Spanish in this country and so many jobs want you to be bilingual. I took two Spainish classes in high school and two in college. I have lots of friends that speak spanish but i can not remember very much. My husband speaks hindi and he has tried to teach me for 6 years but for some reason I have problems learning other languages. I dont think i have the ability. lol.

I'm from Malaysia. The fist language here is Malay. Long time ago, my country has been colonized by the English, hence our second language here is English.

If we want to choose the most valuable language to learn, i suppose it is English. But if you are in the tourism company, i think it is the Russian language. Russian people are famously known people who like to travel. And they really2 dont speak English or any other language. If you travel to egypt or any other tourist places, i'm quite sure for you to see any of them.

If you're staying in Europe, I suppose learning Spanish and French will be really valuable for you since people from there like to immigrate from each another country around there.

Definitely Spanish. Sometimes I feel like it's our first languague. I had a friend who used to live in Northern CA, and she said that her daughters' school, Spanish was the first lanugage.

I had a job once where half my staff was Mexican, and it was very, very difficult to communicate with them. They would not learn English, so I had to take it upon myself to learn Spanish to be able to talk to them. I learned a little, but I don't ever use it now and don't remember much.

i live in indonesia, as indonesian is the first language,
english is the second language
well actually it had become the second language for a long time
but recently, many people place english in their lives more and more
we can find some people use english in daily conversation
i think it's the effect of the global trading
more people are going global right now,
although it's a small city that i live .. hehee
the other second language is chinese language
i say this because i can see the same proportion of both languages
many people here also use chinese as an important foreign language
in some work application, they always ask whether we can speak chinese too besides english

I live in Brazil. The most spoken language here is Portuguese, our native language. However, the second one is English. I have already learned it, as you can see. I'm not fluent in speech, though. At least, I do not consider myself fluent in speaking English. Writting for me is not a big problem: I make some mistakes, but I can communicate. Now, if I start speaking, I guess you wouldn't understand what I am saying. The third language most spoken here is Spanish. I have learned the pretty basics of it, I cannot even form a sentence. However, I plan on learning it. Not so soon, but who knows in a while I'll start studying it for real. And then I'll try to learn another one.

I'm from Romania, but after Romanian, I really can't say which is the second most spoken language, as a maternal language, that is.
Normally, I'd say Hungarian, because there is a strong Hungarian minority in our country, of about 8%. But the Gypsy minority is rapidly developing, and I'm not sure that their language, the Rromani (a Indo-European language, similar to Hindi or Punjab languages) isn't the second most spoken.

Well in my country the main language is HINDI and ENGLISH.
But our country is very rich in cultural heritage, u can guess from here that there are more than 18 official languages, 56 languages and 1880 dielets.

But these languages are mostly regional.
Anyways i am fluent in 6 languages viz.
HINDI
ENGLISH
URDU
ITALIAN
SPANISH
GERMAN

I am having trouble in pronouncng FRENCH words but still i like it a lot.

In my part of the world, the most beneficial second language (behind Swahili, of course) is Country. Southern Country, to be exact.

For instance, instead of saying, 'We don't have any,' would be translated, 'We ain't got nairn.'

Yes, there are many similarities in English and in Southern Country, but you'd be amazed at how difficult it can be to understand Southern Country if you're not able to speak it yourself.
