Hello, I have a new african grey parrot.
He is 6 months old and he seems pretty strong and healthy, when I got him he was skinny and didn't even eat the first day but now he eats almost everything I give him and he climbs his cage up and down:D

The only problem is that he still isn't talking.. does anyone here knows at about what age he is suppoused to start talking? is it possible that he will never learn? if you have one, when did he said his first word?

We have a 7year old African Grey I don't know how old they have to be to start talking but I can tell you that you picked a bird that is a really big talker. She was my dad's bird and we just recently got her so I'm sorry that i can't really say when her first word was but I'm sure once yours becomes comfortable with you, you wont be able to keep it quite.

I got my African Grey when she was real young, probably too young looking back. I don't recall exactly when she started talking, but at least 1-2 years. Keep working with him. Start with short easy words-hi, hello, uh-oh, etc. And be sure to annunciate the words. Just repeat them over and over. I do believe the first thing my grey picked up was the smoke alarm and microwave timer going off...very annoying lol. Whistles and those kind of noises seem to come first, must be easier for them to imitate. Eventually mine started meowing like one of my cats. Just be patient and persistent. They are very smart birds and he'll learn as long as you work with him.
