I read the newspaper and came across this little article called Pet Tips By Charles E. Harris D.V.M.
It reads:
Cats that are spayed or neutered are friendlier to people and develop closer human bonds than intact cats.
So if little Tigger or Smokey isn't friendly this might be the reason why?

Is your dog spayed or nuetered?
Also is it a friendly dog as well?
Do you feel it is this way due to the status of being fixed or not also?

yes , she is. she is friendly but barks at everybody that comes up & that drives me nuts. i don't know whether it has anything to w/her disposition or not. i just didn't want any puppies.

My special little man is neutered and i have honestly never met a friendlier cat! I know i'm biased because he's mine but whenever anyone walks through the door, he's there at their feet rolling over for them to stroke his tummy!! I didn;t have him before he was "done" because he was a rescue cat but i have heard people say that they are friendlier afterwards, i think it has something to do with them not having the same "wild" instincts!! xxx

that's very true!! apart from that, if they aren't being bred then i think it's better to get them done anyway, otherwise people end up with unwanted kittens and they are often treated cruelly, which is really not good! xxx

There can be several other reasons, but yes spaying does help the cats to be more attached with their owners. They will spend fewer time wonderng around, and sapend more time roaming in the house near thei partner.

While probably true, this would not be the primary reason to spay or neuter a pet. It is much healthier for your pet to be neutered. There is much less risk for many different cancers; male cats have less tendency to spray and wander; female cats avoid repeated heats and caterwauling. No unwanted kittens will be produced. The animal is calmer and more pleasant to be around. It is the responsible thing for a pet owner to do, have the pet spayed or neutered.

Hi Chevee,
Yes, cats are more friendlier with humans after they are spayed or neutered, as they don't go out trying find other cat to mate, other then that I really don't know. Love & Hugs.

We don't have a cat but we do have darling little dog. She was spayed before her sixth month and I felt so guilty for a week after that just seeing her going around the house with her Elizabethan collar and having to look at her stitches and giving her some medication too. But she's her lively self now after all that. Spaying also helps prevent female dogs get mammary cancer especially if they went through an early spaying.

I can not state either way oin this matter.
I feel the pets personality traits are bred into them.
They are also brought up a certain way that will make them friendly or not.
All pets I've had be it a cvat or dog were not always spayed or nuetered, yet they were all raised to be friendly.

Yes it could be but not always. Like this one cat we have now that was a stray, he was friendly but he had some aggression in him then when I got him fixed, he's a lot more friendly than before. He's an absolute lover boy now. For some reason, when they're intact, they have aggressive behaviour and will fight more than the ones who have been fixed. It's a part of the cats nature to be that way and it's all the more reason to have them fixed.
