Government's Age Old Conundrum

Governments through out all time and place have had to consider their main obstacle to complete tyranny: where is the tolerance level of the citizens? Basically how much more abuse are they willing to endure at the hands of their own government? The Declaration of Independence puts it this way
"…mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…"
Ben Franklin spoke about a 10% cap on all taxation as something the people would never tolerate: "It would be thought a hard Government that should tax its People one tenth Part of their Time, to be employed in its Service." Think about that 10% taxation was thought to be to a hard Government. Yet we have droves of Americans demanding more taxation, well for other not themselves, they want their own tax cut.
Of course politicians understand that only so much can be put onto the backs of the citizens until they raise up and say no more. That is where the welfare state comes in. The welfare state, completely unconstitutional yet never challenged, is the way to offer the citizens the opportunity to become absolute chattel of the state.
I do not know about you but I refuse to become chattel of the state. I just wonder where the modern day Moses will come from that will say "Let my people go".

Well, Congressman Ron Paul, sought during this election the Republican nomination with essentially the message you seek from this modern day Moses. The media told him to get lost. The people largely agreed.
The Constitutional party has a similar message, too.
The 'Moses' we need are there. The people just have not suffered enough to want to listen, yet.

People don't like to think about being on welfare as selling themselves into slavery, but that is exactly what they are doing. They are making themselves subservient to the government's whims on the false promise of free money.
As a result, they then find themselves in the situation where the government looks at their finances and lifestyles, something that is generally considered private... and if they do not accede to the government demands, then the gravy train ends.
That is not freedom.

And we were told the income tax was just temporary. Now my husband paying almost 40 percent. No wonder it took over 20 years to pay for our house. So where is this fair tax and why should someone decide just because someone is more successful that they should pay more taxes? There is already federal and state tax, tax on what you buy, so what more do you want? Ten percent seems rather tame compared to what there is now.
