If a young person wants to travel around the world they could see if they are eligible for a working holiday visa for Australia or New Zealand. Then they could work to pay for part of their trip. If the person is a student card they could get an international student identity card that will give them discounts. They could join the youth hostel association or a backpacker club like VIP. They could stay in youth hostels, backpacker hostels, a tent or a cheap guest house. Some countries are cheaper than others. Asia, Africa and South America have some cheap countries to travel in like Thailand, Kenya and Bolivia. It is possible to travel overland on trains and buses as well as fly when necessary.
Would you like to travel around the world one day?
Which countries are on your 'must see' list?
Can you think of any other ways to travel money when traveling?

Well I am past the age where I could travel and work but it is a great idea for those who are eligible. All of your suggestions are great and for many it is the only way they can afford to travel to other countries or even within their own country. The only country I am realy interested in travelling to is America and that would be to meet some relatives there that I have never met. My parents chose to make a new life in Australia and my cousins parents went to the U.S. after the end of World War II which is why we have never met.
One of my nephews did the working holiday bit a few years ago. He went to the U.K. for two and a half years and was lucky as his employer at the time was able to get an entension on his visa so he could finisih a certain job. Then he came back to Australia for 6 months to see his parents and make some more money to allow him to go overseas again. So it was back to the U.K. for another 4 months, then to Ireland for 3 months before heading to Canada.
While he was in the U.K. most of the work he did was in ruralareas and he did all sorts of farm work, which he said meant he could work longer hours and the pay was much better. Another advantage was that accommodation was generally provided so he did not have to outlay money for somewhere to live. While in the U.K. he was able to do a fair amount of travelling through much of Europe. He would work as many hours as he could and save his money for the jaunts into Europe and when he ran out of money, back to the U.K. again. lol
He spend a bit of time in various U.S. cities catching up with friends and also is the only member of the family to meet our relatives in the U.S. Then he worked in a couple of different jobs in Canada for another 10 months before returning to Australia again. He worked here for 4 mnths and then returned to Canada for another 8 months work. He has been home for almost a year now but ion a couple of months is again heading off and this time it will be the U.S. where he has been offered work for 3-4 months.
That is one example of what people can do if they are interested and willing to take on whatever work is available. My nephew only spends overseas what he makes there and tries to leave the money he makes when at home here. He says that one day he will want to settle down and it will not be as hard if he has some money to back himself up. Makes sense to me.
A lot of backpackers come to Australia on working holidays. The young ones tend to follow what is known as the harvest trail which means they go to different areas when the fruit and vegetables are to be picked/harevsted. It is hard work and the money depends on how the person works but in most of these places, there is often good accommodation available for free or minimal cost. They are also working outside so they get fit and tanned at the same time .. best of all for many, they are being paid for it.

My Aunt and Uncle had kids in the service stationed all over the world. They would go and stay with them for pretty much free.
Military and Military families in the US can get cheaper flights sometimes.
I think I saw a special on the travel channel, I think they said Turkey, in the Middle East was getting to be a tourist destination. Unless I'm confused with somewhere else, I saw it months ago and my memory isn't very good any more. Thanks and take care.
