I know that it effects the elderly people. Is there any remedy for dementia? Can it be cured or stopped? What do you know about this subject? © ronaldinu 2008

For someone who wants to avoid dementia or delay it, learning and doing new things is very helpful. So is proper nutrition. I view MyLot as part of my Alzheimer's prevention program, because it promotes sociabiliy, lets me learn new things, and keeps me aware of health issues, too.

It depends on the source of the dementia as to how it is treated. There are some illnesses that cause their victims to appear to have dementia. If the illnesses are cured, so is the dementia. Sometimes there is a case of overmedication or the wrong medicine that causes dementia symptoms, correct that problem and you correct the dementia.Having said that, I will also say that true senile dementia or Alzheimer's type dementia cannot be cured. Some medications are effective in slowing the disease progression.

Dementia is of course different than Ahlzeimer's disease. Not sure if I spelled that right, sorry. My paternal grandma had Ahlzeimer's. She is gone now, but my maternal grandafather has dementia. His dementia was caused by a lot of mini strokes he had. It cannot be cured, nor can Ahlzeimer's. But to avoid the onset of dementia, it is important for one to keep their minds busy. Never stop learning, reading, being active. The worst thing is to live an inactive life. Eat healthy, exercise, when a person retires it is especially important to keep the mind healthy. A person really can't help getting Ahlzeimer's, and sometimes they can't help getting dementia. But sometimes you can. My grandfather, while still probably would have had some mini strokes, probably would have had less if he had done some things different throughout his life.

I haven't heard of a cure for it or a way to stop it but i do know that there are medications that, when caught early, can slow down the onslaught of dementia.

Hi ronaldinu, I think it depends on the person, they can be given a simple puzzles to test them how their brain is working and their memory, but I don't think there is a cure,my mother-in-law suffered from it becfore she passed. I wish there is a cure. Tamara

As far as i know dementia is sort of a catch all name for brain problems. So I guess the answer is what is causing it. Some times it's chemical, lack of nutrition or it can be harding of the arteries in the brain. Some of these can be helped and even reversed. They have just learned that the brain can repair it's self to some extent. New things are being learned all the time, I guess the best thing to do is to insist that the reason for the dementia is found if at all possible and then look for treatments.

I don't think there's a cure as such, but there are ways to slow it down. Exercise, a balanced diet and mental stimulation helps. There are some treatments that look promising but nothing has been established as genuinely effective yet.

I think there are remedies for dementia ^_^ but those remedies have to start early, and it's not based on any medications nor treatments.. Rather, it's thru exercising ^_^ As exercising will increase the flow of blood pressure to our brains, making them work harder, and thus, it cn sort of prevent dementia ^_^ If not, playing of mahjhong or games with the elderly, is another way or reversing dementia too ^_^ As long as they put their brains to use, the possibility of them having dementia will be very low ^_^

I am not sure but I believe that dementia has to do with brain cells and that once brain cells are affected it's hard to revive those cells back. My mother works in caregiving facility in the states, she was telling my aunt who is around 60 years old to let go of her worries because number one reason why dementia happens because of anxiety.
