Giving without being asked is one of the best contributions we can offer another human being. Though we may feel uncomfortable at first to offer our help, it is a powerful way to show our affection for the people we care about. Many of our friends might feel uncomfortable asking us for help. Any basic thing we do to make another person’s life easier, binds us together in a shared understanding of what friendship truly is, taking care of each other. This kind of giving was much more common a century ago then it is today, have we lost something special in the mad rush of the society that we have created?

Yes we have lost something, compassion for our fellow men..We have become so into ourselves, myself included, that we don't see how people in our lives might be suffering.. Thank you for the reminder, we should always be looking for those less fortunate that we can help..:)

It makes me feel real good to give and share with others. There are a lot of selfish people around me who are learning to give, because they see how freely I do. Being raised in church, I learned about all the scriptures and benefits of giving at a very young age.

I think that we have lost the ability to appreciate, and we now expect things from everyone. People are so greedy nowadays that to not receive something to which they weren't entitled to in the first place is beyond their comprehension. People need to understand that we are all the same, that we are all human. No one is better or more entitled to something than someone else.

I do agree with what you have written. However I do think that there are still good people who try their to do their utmost to help others without being asked. It is when we give to others that we "receive". © ronaldinu 2008

A very thought provoking discussion indeed,Pose.....Infact I was always also a keen "giver" some 1 or 2 decades ago,but now I have changed my attitude completely.People are all becoming self centered and egoistic, and have no qualms about taking any help from the "givers" and then walking away without even a word of gratitude after they have "extracted" all possible help, leaving the other person drained and looking like a fool....There is no longer any binding among people and every body is involved in a rat race to go ahead and reach out for grabbing god knows what, and have no time to pause or to "act human"....sigh..where is this world leading to dear Pose?
