Do you think you are obese? |
|
I am 5.2inches and about 130 pounds (58.5kilos). I feel overweight and not very healthy and am trying my best to cut down on my sweets and oily food. But it so difficult. I go for walks at least 3-4 times a week but that doesn't seem to be enough to lose the bulk. Am I obese? How do you actually define obesity?

By definition because I am shorter I am overweight, but I carry my weight well so its not horribly obvious as compared to others. People gain weight differently, some carry it in their stomachs, others carry it in their legs, etc. I'm fortunate to be rather well proportioned. It can be hard to lose weight but so easy to gain! Due to medical conditions its actually extremely hard for me to lose weight, and I've had to really work on being happy with who I am and accepting my looks. Some days are easier then others, thats for sure!

But you don't need to be depressed about it - your personailty is the most important -not your weight. I am sometimes worried that I may get some illness if I gain more weight so I try to reduce it but I try not to listen to what other people say - I am sure they also have loads of problems of their own, which I don't have thankfully. So I am happy about myself, you should be as well.

kaliyha (442) | 1 year ago | So true. I am obese according to my BMI but most of the time I feel like I'm not obese at all. A friend of mine said I don't carry myself like most fat people do. I guess the key to it is how to carry oneself. An aura of confidence can change a lot. Btw, the reason why I'm fat's because of a medical condition too. No matter how hard I workout, the weight comes back.

Right now I am overweight and want to get back down to at least 150 to be healthier, but I still don't think I'm obese. I think someone your height at maybe 225-250 is obese!

3. khayshenz (1093) | 6 months ago | I actually think you're at a 'healthy" weight - go check your BMI. Just google "BMI Chart" or something. It'll show what your BMI is according to your age and weight.
Though I wouldn't put too much stock on the BMI thing - I was a swimmer and played some basketball back in high school - but my BMI kept saying i'm "slightly overweight." That's because muscle weighs more than fat - therefore, if you're a fairly active-muscular person, your BMI won't help much.
I've gained about some (if not a lot of) weight since then (now I'm "slightly obese" according to my BMI).
I don't pay much attention to it - as long as I can run, and train for my future marathon, I'm fine. I exercise, I'm fairly confident - and that's all that matters. Love yourself for who you are and don't mind what people say. If you want to lose weight - do it for yourself. Don't do it for others. Dr. Seuss said " be who you are and say what you feel - because those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter."
good luck!

4. maezee (4350) | 5 months ago | I'm not obese according the to the BMI (body mass index) scale, but I know that I'm borderline overweight. . But I guess that's better than being obese.
I define obesity pretty much by what the BMI scale says; I don't really define it myself. The BMI scale just measures your height vs. weight - and whether you're underweight, overweight, or obese for someone your height. So it looks at that factor, which is nice. I'm not sure if you're considered obese, but you could Google "BMI calculator" and look up to see what your Body Mass Index is, anyway. It's good info to have.
You could try to kick it up a notch. I've always felt a similar way..Unhealthy although I'm about 10 pounds overweight. And walking just isn't really enough. I feel like you should try to get some more of a cardio workout in there somewhere, and a cardio workout (you probably know this) is anything that gets your heart rate up to like 80 or 90%. Biking, running, spinning, kickboxing, or any type of intense workout will pretty much do that for you. Walking..Just isn't as good of a workout because unless we're really exhausted, we don't get that same effect.
