My computer died on me!!!

Two days ago, I got home in the afternoon, exhausted but eager and determined to do some myLotting. As I sleepily typed down one of my responses, my mac's screen just went black and no matter what key or button I push, nothing is happening. It is just dead. And I was about to cry because my mac has been good and loyal to me since I got it as a present. It has been privy to most of what I do the past few years.
Then I thought about connecting it to its charger and voila! The screen and myLot reappeared. I guess in my sleepy state, I didn't notice the blinking red battery symbol on my screen.
Has this ever happened to you? You freak out because "something" died? Like your "broken" remote control that just needed a new set of batteries? The DVD player that won't play because it wasn't plugged in? Or your camera because you forgot to put the charged battery in?

You got me in here, shiloh. If something happens, you are partly to blame.
But I am definitely enjoying myLot, obviously. I hope you get to that 2000 mark as soon as you could and want.

I have had my laptop conk out on me many a time because I wasn't charging it and it always seems to happen when I am smack bang in the middle of typing something lengthy too! lol. You would think I would notice the warning pop-up telling me that there is less than 10% battery life remaining, but no. I am so caught up in what I am doing I am totally oblivious! My office PC though is a different story altogether. It's a desktop with a mind of its own and will shut down, restart and freeze constantly.
It drives me absolutely crazy but all efforts to find exactly why this happens have failed so far. Thank goodness for the laptop!

Which one has the ant again? I forgot if it was the PC Or the laptop. So far, when I type documents, I tend to "save" every five minutes or so. I don't remember why I started doing that but it makes me feel better knowing that if something was to happen like a blackout or so, I saved most of it.
Good luck with the PC. If it's the one with the ant, maybe it's the ant's ghost trying to tell you something.

I've gone through various situation like this and have freaked out often enough. The laptop battery dying out especially when i was in the middle of a post of mylot. Then a few days ago while travelling i could not watch the TV in a hotel because i had put off a switch while turning off the lights. I thought the thing had gone bad ,complained to the housekeeping. In fact was fuming at them only to have it pointed out to me that i had turned off the wrong switch.

So are you traveling a lot, alokn? Is this part of your job? Or just pleasure?
So far, I'm lucky that I haven't blamed it on anyone else. The only closest thing to that experience is when my mom went on vacation and one of her cars was blocking another car that my brother and I wanted to use for that weekend. It wouldn't start so we called our mom long-distance and she told us there's a battery charger in her garage. My brother picked up what he thought was the charger and for two days, we were trying to make that car start. Finally, we gave up and told our mom her charger wasn't working either. When she came back from her trip, she called us and let us know that we weren't using the right charger. And the car started after less than an hour of using the right charger.

I'm blaming it on the wrong charger. How could 4 adults go wrong? LOL.

I like that phrase "pulling my hair out" because it is true. I'm glad to hear you finally figured it out, otherwise, your hair's gonna get it! Thanks, enola!

I am sorry to hear that your computer was not working a couple of days ago and that you thought there was a problem with it,and I am glad that you found out that all you had to do was reconnect it to its charger and the screen and mylot came back to you and I know sometimes when we are tired it is hard to notice the simplest things, and I know I often freak out when things stop working for example, last night the desktop I am using would not load any of the sides of the computer, and I called my cousin who is great with computers and he called back and told me what to do to get the computer to work again, and now me and my fiance know how to make the computer respond if it decides to be obstinate again.

It's nice to have a computer expert in the family, isn't it? Unfortunately, I don't so I just try to figure it out myself first and then ask Boyfriend if he knows... I guess that's why they say you don't really operate well when you're tired... you don't notice the simplest things. Thanks, Cowboy and hope your computer does not act up again. Take care!

yea because the angle i have my screen i cannot see the indicator which flashes when it is low on battery so for the 1st few months i had my laptop it kept dying and i didn't know what was going on but i finally realized that it was the battery that was dying so now i have my screen at an angle so i can see when it is low.

I hope you no longer have to deal with your laptop "dying", arsenl. There are just some days that we are so into what we are doing in the computer that we are oblivious to the flashing or blinking signs. Thanks for responding!

This happened to my PC a couple of months ago. Right now I am using my old mac, but we've just bought a new PC - my husband needs it for classes that he is taking.
We didn't freak out, although we didn't have everything on it backed up, so I feel a bit sad. Unfortunately, it wasn't just that it wasn't plugged in. Usually the first thing I do is check batteries or power cords.

I'm sorry to hear about your PC, cutepenguin, and about the lost documents and such.
Enjoy your mac and your new PC. Whenever I say PC, I always think of that "I'm a PC" commercial. Thanks!

I think it's a conspiracy among things that need batteries to be charged. They always like to die on us when we need them the most. Thanks, chiyosan.

I try to figure it out myself first but when I'm freaking out, all logic and sense seem to be not as good as when I'm calm. So I try to calm myself but then again, when I'm freaking out, it's hard to calm one's self. At least you know you have a helpful uncle there, fgaloma. @ediblecottoncandie (109)

Yes, one time I accidently pulled out my internet connection and it took 3-4 days to get back up and running.

It took 3-4 days for you to figure out that you did that? Or after you pulled out your internet connection, did you have to go through some process that took that long? Well, I hope you're enjoying your connection right now. Thanks, ediblecottoncandie.
