I'm in this position right this very minute. I haven't got a cent to last me the month or through Christmas and the only way I'll have any money at all is with a bank loan I'm hoping to get. The thing is I might not get it. Banks can be funny about this and I'm just not sure. Have you ever been in this position ? How would you deal with this ?

I convey my sympathy for the situation you are facing. I have not faced such problem. For bank loan I have not applied. My hubby is a bank officer and working with his branch. But I knew that getting a bank loan is not easy. I have told my hubby many times for why they are so crazy extending loan. He has not replied me in details. Just said that it is banks policy.

Twice. Once on my husband to get his student loan and the full amount, and then we needed a car or we'd be out of job. Of course that was the 90's, it was easier back then to get a loan than it would be right now.
