Contact lenses.....how long do you wear them?

I just put my contacts back in after letting them soak overnight and I thought about it, most of the time I wear my contacts for a VERY long time. I had one pair that I wore for a year taking them out every couple of months or so to clean them then putting them back in. I know that the manufacturers would prefer you to use them for a week or so then throw them out, and i know there have been studies done to see how long they actually can be worn without causing any kind of damage. I tried to get into one of the studies, but it was too late to get into it.
Whats the longest you have kept a pair of contacts? Would you wear them for a long period of time before taking them out? Why or why not?

Do you sleep in your contacts, Erilyn? My daughter is a technician and she tries to make sure her son, who wears contacts, takes them out at night. They can cause irritation of the eyes. I suppose you have the extended wear ones. Her son has a very bad eye and the other one isn't as bad. She tries to make sure he's wearing his glasses at night before getting sleepy because he can fall asleep anywhere. It's easy to get his glasses off, but not his contacts out of his eyes.

Yes I sleep in them. I only take them out every so often to clean them. I wear acuvue oaysis contacts now. I was in the hydraclear ones. My ex husband is an opthlmologist and threatened to take me out of contacts till he saw that they did no damage to my eyes. I take them out and clean them if they start to irritate my eyes or if they start to get cloudy. Last night I had decided to let them soak overnight cause i didn't feel like putting them back in.
