Everyone gives gifts for the new baby but what about for the mom? Here are some ideas:
Instead of giving her another photo album, gather photos of her pre-mom life into a cool book.
Does she like coffee? Pick up a coffee-shop gift card. Especially good for sleep-deprived moms.
Baby-gift thank-you notes can take forever to write. Get her a set of cards and stamped envelopes with her return address already filled in.
Give her the name and number of a great sitter and pay for a night of babysitting.
Make her dinners she can heat and eat: Frozen casseroles never go out of style.
If you don't cook then get her out of the house to go to her favorite restaurant. She'd probably love to air out postbaby frustrations that only another mom could understand.

I always buy the new mom a gift for herself too.
It is nice to put together a little pampering basket with bath salts and lotions.
New moms also love to get new pj's/lounge wear to wear once the baby is born.
Taking her other kids out for a special evening so mom and dad can spend some time together with the new one is also a great gift.

When my DD was born in May, she was our first child. One of the best gifts I received was a gift coupon to a local catering company for 5 complete meals. After she was born, we were very hectic due to the commotion of handling a new baby. We used those coupons quickly and it was the best meal. We got a main dish, 2 veggies, a drink and a dessert. It wasn't just a plate off food, but a whole meal. We'd eat a little out of it and then save the rest. Those meals lasted us about 3 days each and that was suck a God send for us at that time.
Another one I got was a coupon for a massage with a local massage therapist. She didn't have that many clients, so a friend of mine paid for a session with her and 6 months later, I'm still going to her. I've brought her in several clients as well.
