Do you really see "the change" in Obama? |
First of all, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to America. It seems that you finally found the hope amidst the economic crisis you've experienced with the previous administration.
Now that President Barack Obama is now leading the most powerful country in the world, do you really think he can handle this kind of responsibility? Good enough that the change he's saying will be clearly seen by 305,595,000 Americans.
I know this is not the right time to be judgmental about anything but perhaps some American myLotters will contribute some useful insights about the newly elected president.

1. Opal26 (9646) | 1 year ago | Hey roneyes! Thank you for the the kind words of encouragement for our new President Barack Obama! We are hoping that he will be able to get us out of the mess that our current President has gotten us into. But, we are not fooling ourselves that this will be a very difficult task for anyone. He knows this too. He even said that it might not be able to be done in one term. It is a shame that he is coming into office with such a terrible mess to deal with. No matter how good a President he may be it is almost impossible to fix what has already been done in the eight years that Bush was in office. We can only pray that our new President can make som head way in trying to change some of the things that have been done to hurt our country. So we all are wishing President Obama well and are praying for him!

2. maximax8 (10320) | 1 year ago | I am not from America but I know that he is the first black president to be elected. I imagine that he will help many black people feel good about themselves. He should be an excellent role model. I am a teacher and sometimes when there there are 2 black children in a school when everyone else is white I want to show the black children that they are valued and respected. I hope that Obama will show America a positive change. Sadly he does not believe in having live aborted babies cared for so they can live. Having read Giana, a book about a lady that survived abortion I think Obama's idea on that matter needs some thought. Apart from that I think he should make a wonderful president for America. Good luck to the USA and its new president Obama.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | That's very sincere! A+ Being the youngest and the first black president, Barack Obama created a significant mark in America's history. I'm glad that he's now the pride of black people.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | OIC. Thanks for the info. What's Obama's age then?
| |
polachicago (7865) | 1 year ago | Everybody is referring to Obama as black, when in fact he is only half black. His mother was white.
| |
sndcain36 (2644) | 1 year ago | Our economy is in the toilet, we're fighting two wars, and your big concern is that black people need to feel good about themselves?
People have made race the overriding issue at a time when it is quite possibly the least important issue there is.
| |
| KYEEDAH1 (89) | 1 year ago | It is true that he is of mixed races but if he considers himself Black, who are we to put him in a catergory. Historically, when you have a certain percentage of Black ancestry you would be considered Black. But I also feel that it is up to him. Believe me, I do see your point but he is still making stides for the Black American and in that way, he represents Black Americans as a whole.
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Good point! If Obama will consider himself as black, then we should respect it regardless of what the media is saying.
| |
nanajanet (2656) | 1 year ago | I have never heard Obama refer to himself as black, have you? If there is anything out there where he says that he is, okay, then give me the link. He refers to himself as a sort of mutt. When they asked what type of dog they will get for the kids he said that he would get a mixed breed from the pound because they are like him.
I thought that was a cute analogy.

babyfirefighter (529) | 1 year ago | Obama is not the first black president. If you go through history you will see that there were actually 6 black president before Obama. Lincon was black his mother was white and father was black. His brothers and sisters were sold off to slavery because they came out looking black and lincon did not. Presidant Coolidge was also black. Coolidge mother was black her madien name was Moore which was given to black slaves. Coolidge never denied his ancsetery. President Andrew Jackson was also Black. His mother was a white iresh women who married a negro. Also there was one presdient before George Washington. Under the Articals of Confederation the was a president His name was John Henson which guess what was black full blooded black man. If you do not believe me here are some materials that you can read over for yourself. http://www.computerhealth... read this before you say obama is the first black president because he is not. Thank you

alindahaw (2030) | 1 year ago | It is very interesting to learn that there were aready presidents in the United States who are of black descent. Lincoln has always been my favorite president. He was a true leader who give himself for the good of humankind. He was one president who brought real change to the country.

AcousticSoul (667) | 1 year ago | I am so sick of people talking about race... Will he be a good president because hes black? or Mixed for that matter... HE's Human and wants to make a change for EVERYONE not just BLACKS I wish the world would get over this whole race thing, his heart beats just like yours so what his pigment is of a different shade OMG... the man was already Judged before he got into office, and yes Black people are proud to break that glass ceiling we never thought would be possible years of oppression constant murders because of the color of our skin YES WE ARE PROUD... and I hope it gives hope for all races that one day Mexicans, Jews or for that matter Asian Americans can become President of the United States... its sad that when people look at him they wont see his efforts for world peace and economic relief all they will see is BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK... its funny how hes all of a shudden half black because hes president... but when he was running he was just black... America needs to grow up and realize the past is what got us into this mess its time for a change hell I wouldn't be mad if he was Mexican as long as I am able to work, receive medical care and hope for a brighter future for my kids...GET OVER IT PLEASE
| |
| jworkman (37) | 1 year ago | I believe that it should not be the race, color of skin, etc. to serve as the basis for a good president's performance. It's not in the physical appearance but the actions is what matters. If a president has a clear vision for his country, that may serve as his solid ground and inspiration to do good with his duties and responsibilities as a leader.

LadyMarissa (2641) | 1 year ago | He should feel pride!!! He has overcome extreme obstacles to get to the highest office in the land. He said NOTHING wrong in his criticism of Bush. Technically, he is now Bush's boss. I do believe he will handle it with the style & grace he has shown over the past years. I find him & Michelle to be two extremely classy individuals who are raising their daughters to follow in their footsteps!!! Maybe I'm just a little too optimistic but I do see "a change" coming!!!
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Such a blessed daughters! Although they need to step on a huge adjustment with their lives. Especially now that the issue of kidnapping is an open door for them.
| |
sndcain36 (2644) | 1 year ago | I see you are already making excuses in the event Obama is a failure. You're already blaming Bush.
How sad that you have so little faith in the man you voted for and that you're already looking for an out if he fails to deliver.
| |
Opal26 (9646) | 1 year ago | And you are extremely negative in everything that you are saying! Why don't you wait and give our President-elect a fair chance!
| |
LadyMarissa (2641) | 1 year ago | OMG ron, why would you think of kidnapping an innocent child???
snd, you have to be one of the MOST miserable people I have ever met!!! I have noticed your whiny ways for a while now & was awaiting your attack. For you to even assume you know who I voted for is ludicrous. I would be saying the same thing if McCain had won except I don't think this discussion would have been started had McCain been the President Elect. I think it is time the people of the USA work TOGETHER to rebuild our country NOT tear it down further. I believe people like you are what is wrong with this country. You would prefer to whine rather than be part of the solution. I said nothing different about Bush today than I said 8 years ago & Obama was not the President Elect at that time!!! I didn't care for Bush from the day he announced he was running in 2000. I don't remember him ever offering to bring the country together. Atleast Obama has offered. I am NOT making excuses for Obama. I would have said the exact same thing had McCain or Nader been the President Elect. If you had taken the time to read any of my other posts, you would know that I have very little faith in ANY politician. Now that the country has chosen Obama, I think we ALL should come together to make this work. It will take more than one man to make "the change" & I plan on helping in this country's future, I'm sorry you do not feel the same way!!!
Thank you Opal, you are dead on!!! I guess it is easier to turn the back than work toward change!!!

finlander60 (745) | 1 year ago | Barack Obama, whatever else he is, IS NOT PRESIDENT BUSH'S BOSS. He is the "President-Elect, nothing more. The American people did not, as you so incorrectly put it, cause this problem. My two cents on this subject.
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | No, no LadyMarissa. You interpreted my comment the wrong way. It's just that when you're a child of a higher power, the interest of some people will be focused on you. Some interests are good while some have bad intentions to it. I'm not saying that it happens all the time, but it's very inevitable to think that there are a few people out there who will basically do anything to pi$$ off someone. I mean there was this news lately that a certain group is trying to assassinate President Obama. I know it's horrible and no innocent soul would want that to happen.
Regarding the children of Obama, like I said they need to make some huge adjustment with their lives. Stuff like transferring to an exclusive and well-guarded school, bodyguards, and other security related things that I suppose they're not really used to or ones that they haven't experienced before.
The kidnapping thingy is just a speculation. I'm not saying it's a fact. Although it's quite inevitable sometimes, let's just pray it won't happen especially to Obama's daughters.
Sorry.
| |
LadyMarissa (2641) | 1 year ago | I pray that your thoughts will NEVER even be tried. I know there are plenty of nutz out there (and in here). For the first time since JFK, I feel there is HOPE & I plan on doing EVERYTHING in my power to bring forth such change. It saddens me that some are so closed minded as to refuse to move toward this change just because it's not the person they preferred it to be. I can see now that I will be bugging God daily as I pray for the souls of those who have NO desire to see!!!
I HATE political discussions & ONLY meant to answer to "the change" I feel in the air. Unlike some, I may not agree with what everyone says, but I will fight to the death for their right to say it. All I ask is the same respect!!! I have said my peace here & want to again thank you for the BR. May God bless this country including those who don't think they need to be blessed!!! I love each & every one of you & just want peace returned into our lives!!!

nanajanet (2656) | 1 year ago | Marissa, no matter what you say, there are those negative people out there ready to twist every word you write. I have found it is best to ignore fools and they will eventually go away.
I agree with everything that you have said and I keep saying that no president can be a miracle worker, no president will do everything we want and shouldn't because some stuff some people want should never happen.
Two quotes come to mind...:"The best way to fail is to try to please everyone" and "The good of the many outweighs the good of the few", meaning that he will be looking at the whole picture and take it from there.
That is why he wants to surround himself with not yes men but people who will not be afraid to challenge him, people who are incredible minds with experience. You see, when you are a CEO or president of a company, you cannot do it all yourself and will fail if you try. Therefore, you hire those who will make up for your shortcomings and delegate jobs to those who you believe can handle them better than you.
A good leader does not do it all, they delegate and keep a handle on all of those positions.
| |
nanajanet (2656) | 1 year ago | Ah, I misquoted on one quote...
It should read, "The NEEDS of the many outweigh the NEEDS of the few." (Mr. Spock, Star Trek 4)

5. Arkie69 (1096) | 1 year ago | As an American at this point I am just waiting to see Obama take office in January. I'm done listening to talk about what all he is going to do. Now I say shut up talking and show me what you are going to do. Honestly I don't look for much out of Obama for the simple reason he is a black man and this fact alone will keep him from getting enough help to do much of anything. The poor blacks may have gotten him elected but they won't be able to help him on Capital Hill. The only way Obama could do anything right now to help the working class people of America would require him to get into the pockets of the rich and they will not allow that to happen. I figure the quicker we admit we are beat and then get to work getting ready for the worst the better off we will be. I say let the auto makers fall a long with the big insurance companies and banks and give that money to the people in the form of food stamps that can only be used to buy food. This would give our food industry a badly needed shot in the arm. Above all we must keep our food and water supply flowing. These are the ones we need to be bailing out not the greedy bankers.
| |
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | I appreciate your insights. Personally, I think the greatest challenge for Obama is the urge for him to get the economy working well again. This will not only create a positive effect for America, but for other countries as well.
| |
Arkie69 (1096) | 1 year ago | I hope Obama can do everything he said he would but I will have to see it to believe it. I agree that Bush and his bunch sitting and doing nothing had a hand in all this mess but this wasn't done by the Government. The big money people all over this world are the ones that did this. They let their greed get the best of them and simply reached too far too fast. We need a lot of changes made in this world, not just in the US. Certain things must be controlled and very closely policed or this will just keep happening. It doesn't matter if it's in the US, China, Russia or where ever there are certain things you just can't do and get away with it. They know exactly what people did to cause this mess. Now is the time to step up and outlaw a bunch of this crap so it doesn't happen again. They won't do this though because they may be stepping on someones rights. I say we have every right to demand our Governments to protect us from crap like we are in now.
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Well that's one of the responsibilities of the government - to protect the citizens and the country as a whole. I think America did a great job on this. I mean it wouldn't become the most powerful country in the world if the government's not an expert of protecting the country itself.
| |
Arkie69 (1096) | 1 year ago | You don't know our government very well do you. The last war we were in that had anything to do with our freedom was WWII. The two we are in now is all about oil and the billions of dollars the American contractors can make rebuilding the two countries. The wars in Korea, Viet Nam, and all the other wars have only been the United States sticking their noses in someone elses business where it didn't belong. It makes me sick when the jokers start talking about our brave young men fighting for our freedom in Iraq. Our brave young men are fighting to secure Iraq's oil for the US.

6. kwenge (1349) | 1 year ago | Am not an American but I thought its good to passby this wonderful discussion and drop my two cents. America has suffered alot in the hands of the last regime, mostly the last for years. The mess is too huge to clear in one term but I believe that the change will be noticed eventually. Obama is young, with energy and he can be trusted to move America to a better place.
| |
| |
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | I agree. Obama certainly has the aura of change in him. For now, it's quite impossible to overturn the economic crisis immediately. But with the help of his fellow Americans, I know it will be possible.
| |
finlander60 (745) | 1 year ago | Like a true politician, President-Elect Obama is already campaigning for the next election before even taking the Oath of Office by stating that it may take more than one term to straighten out the mess we are in. I am going to sit back and take the attitude "Don't tell me what you are going to do, SHOW ME." I still think he is just "Another Slick Politician." My two cents on this subject.

10. chennai_b07 (442) | 1 year ago | Not only you and me.. But the entire world is especting the Steps taken by the new president of US, Mr. Obama..
He is having some good thought which will clear the present crisis of the world, even though if it affects the present situations of some of the neibour countries, in the long run, the same will give the good result to the entire nation/world..
He may charge some of the taxes and the additional Taxes for the outsourcing from teh other counties like india and other countries, this will give some negative results for the other countries, but in the coming days, this will become set it alright..
Like that, his every moments will defenately will help the entire world in the coming days.
Initially he will work out a plan, for the US unemployment crises, and the recent economy problem of US. in this activity some of the other countries will get it affected, this is only the temprorary problem, this also will get it alright soon..
And also our stock market also will get it alright in the next 2 or 3 quarters.. after he take the incharge of the post.
Everything is under "HOPE", and this is not only my hope, the entire world's "HOPE"..
Hope OBAMA will being the true of our "HOPE"
Have a good day.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Very nice insights. HOPE is indeed the word for this election. The success of Obama and America will be a success of many countries. Like you, I also hope that the change will be made possible. Let's expect that no promises should be left undone.

cher8558 (370) | 1 year ago | Hi friends,
Look, I don't care of Obama is black, green, orange or blue. I cannot believe how much fuss is being made of this man's color. What the hell does it matter?
I am not American, I am Canadian. But I still have a dog in this race.
Unfortunately, I have never had very much faith in any politician, anywhere. Their usual tactic is to lie their butts off until they get snuggly in and then all those promises and all the things we all want to hear all of a sudden are not mentioned anymore.
I will say this. I am sick to death of these young men and women coming home in body bags for a war that is absolute and utter nonsense. If Obama does nothing else, get our soldiers home where they belong. Not fighting in a war that really has lost its glory and should NEVER have been started in the first place.
