Do you really see "the change" in Obama? |
|
First of all, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to America. It seems that you finally found the hope amidst the economic crisis you've experienced with the previous administration.
Now that President Barack Obama is now leading the most powerful country in the world, do you really think he can handle this kind of responsibility? Good enough that the change he's saying will be clearly seen by 305,595,000 Americans.
I know this is not the right time to be judgmental about anything but perhaps some American myLotters will contribute some useful insights about the newly elected president.

I do believe that Obama is very powerful and he will work hard on his promises. I think that first time the election results made the whole world happy, including our troops in Iraq.... We hope to end this war and take care of our own citizens.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Sending the troops in Iraq is what I consider as one of the worst decisions of President Bush. Now that Obama is soon to take over the office, I'll be looking forward to see some good changes in the troops' lives.

12. sndcain36 (2645) | 1 year ago | At best Obama will be a mediocre president; at worst his policies will only exacerbate a bad situation as Roosevelt's New Deal did. I doubt he'll see a second term.
It's interesting to note that he's already backing off many of his extravagant promises made during the campaign; once the euphoria wears off people are going to take notice.

finlander60 (745) | 1 year ago | He's already backing off, huh? This brings to mind a story I heard many years ago. It goes like this. A man dies and goes to Heaven, where he is met by St Peter who informs him that he has a choice of where he spends eternity. He could spend it in Heaven or Hell. He states that he would prefer Heaven. St Peter informs him that he has to spend one day in each, before making up his mind, and once he does it is permanent. St Peter puts him into the elevator and down he goes. Upon arrival he is met by Lucifer, who proceeds to show him around. He sees people playing golf, drinking champagne and eating good food. Next, he heads up in the same elevator to heaven, where he sees people reading The Bible, sitting on clouds and playing harps. At the end of his one day, St Peter arrives and asks him which place he wants to spend eternity? The man says he would prefer Hell. St Peter asks him if he is sure of his choice because, after all, it is for eternity. He says that he is sure he wants to go to Hell for eternity. St Peter puts him back into the elevator, and down he goes. The door opens and there he sees a wasteland with tortured souls and Lucifer waiting for him. He asks Lucifer what happened to the scene he observed just a day ago. Lucifer replies "It's kind of like politics, yesterday we were campaigning, and today you voted for Hell."

RBNLOVESPOH (181) | 1 year ago | I agree. They have already foiled at least one plot in Tennesse, where some white skinheads were going to go into a predomiantly Black School and start to kill people along with Obama when he was in their state. Lucky they caught them before anything could happen.

14. RBNLOVESPOH (181) | 1 year ago | We still have 70 some days left with arrogant one(President Bush). Obama does not take office until January 20, 2009. I do feel that he is going to do most of what he says but it will not happen overnight. It will take time. I, myself think it will take at least 1 yr to get things started, hopefully less though.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Let's hope for the best. It's definitely a fact that "the change" is not an overnight job. Like one of the responders had said, time will tell.

15. GardenGerty (20235) | 1 year ago | Ron, based on the performance of the stock market, we are still not feeling any hope in the economic crisis. The markets are still falling. Obama will only succeed if congress and the people support him. One man cannot possibly make that much of a difference, without support.
| |
| |
|
|
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Well I do believe that it will take some time before the change will be evidently seen. It's true that Obama needs support, so I hope that all Americans will support him. If Obama will succeed with his good and productive plans, this will be a great news for many countries.

6precious102 (1400) | 1 year ago | I appreciate your response, GardenGerty, and you're correct, one man cannot make much of a difference without support. That is something Bush got very little of. Almost from the beginning of his first term the Congress did their best to thwart him at every turn and the Republicans were too mousy to prevent it. The media, who for the most part wanted Gore to win in 2000 and Kerry in 2004, have done everything in their power to make Bush look bad. Bush's economic policies were working until the Democrats took control of Congress in 2004 and though the war is unpopular (mainly due to negative reporting by the media), we are winning and we have not been attacked since 9/11.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | It's inevitable for a politician to have a handful of haters. I believe that McCain have his share of haters as well. We have to respect those people who wouldn't mind giving Obama the chance to rule America. That's their opinion but rest assured that this will not change the fact that Obama is now the president. So whether they like it or not, Obama will still face the responsibility of a president.
| |
|
|
GardenGerty (20235) | 1 year ago | According to what I have heard, the beginnings of our economic mess go back more than eight years, making it Clinton's mess. I think, honestly, that no one can predict the future, or the cumulative effects of mistakes that are made by both parties. All in all, I think the American people need to tighten their belts and work hard, not expecting government to fix everything because the truth is that if the government hands you something you pay for it with more taxes and more governmental control. I am prepared for whoever is elected to provide leadership and I want to see it in their own lives as well.

17. kanpela (414) | 1 year ago | Everyone in the universe sees changes in Obama, the way he express every idea, his plans and more, since we can not forget that there is a big between speaking people and acting ones, so we need to see if he will be able to do what he promised to do and what times will bring too, sometimes things depends on the moment, I hope that the mads from midlle east will give enough time to build America economy instead of disturb him

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | As the saying goes... "Looks can kill" I agree that Obama should not be judged by the way he talks or the way he expresses his plans. But yeah, we can admire him for that but the result of his actions is what matters the most.

18. MoonlightSerenade (998) | 1 year ago | I think the main change we'll see is the glorious absence of the small minded "my way or the highway" meanness of the previous administration. Barack Obama is spoken of by his colleagues and advisors as a good, thoughtful listener. He isn't stubborn. I think he has the ability to listen and to take good advice. YES I think he can handle this kind of responsibility. He is a strong, strong man.
