Do you really see "the change" in Obama? |
|
First of all, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to America. It seems that you finally found the hope amidst the economic crisis you've experienced with the previous administration.
Now that President Barack Obama is now leading the most powerful country in the world, do you really think he can handle this kind of responsibility? Good enough that the change he's saying will be clearly seen by 305,595,000 Americans.
I know this is not the right time to be judgmental about anything but perhaps some American myLotters will contribute some useful insights about the newly elected president.

I think he is involved with too many people that are scum and that could cause us a bunch of problems. I did watch his news confrence yesterday and I will be the first to say, he did impress me with the things he said. And believe me when I say that was hard for me to say. Only time will tell what he can do to dig us out of the mess we are in. Congress put us where we are, it is a democratic congress and they are the ones that make and pass the laws, the president really has very little to do with it, we still have the same congress we had with Bush, in fact there are more of them now that the election is over. I hope that they will all work together for the good of the country, I have my doubts, but I am giving him the benefits of the doubt to see what he will do.

Unfortunately most of the Obama voters who hoped for an immediate fix will be sadly disappointed. It took years of greed and mismanagement to get us into this predicament and it may also take years to get us out of it.

54. littlefranciscan (4683) | 1 year ago | I have definitely noticed a surface change..which is a start. It seems that people are looking more hopeful. I have seen worldwide signs of hope. President Obama is not wasting time resting on his laurels; he is reaching out to many people and laying out plans..So there are real signs of action and hope.

Give him time. I really hope that he is the right man to bring the change in worldwide politics. © ronaldinu 2008

| 57. patweber (77) | 1 year ago | Because I do not watch or listen too much to the media, I'm replying to this based on what I read after television and radio reports.
You asked two questions: "Do you really see "the change" in Obama?" "Do you really think that he can handle this kind of responsibility?"
To the change question: the change I am hearing about is that so far he is not keeping his word about reaching across the aisles; being bipartisan. His staff appointments so far are clearly fully democratic all the way. If he isn't keeping his word then truly that is not any change. I've not seen one politician keep their word. Still, there is still the euphoria of the first black president and maybe he is still on a high. Understandable. Hopefully he will be quickly getting to the task of his work.
To the responsibility question: I think he'll be quickly challenged; we have so much that is still unstable. We are going to be able to quickly answer this question for you. Several of the auto manufacturers just asked the government for more money to help them with their losses. I wonder if he was responsible in talking with them about looking at cutting their millions of dollars c-level bonuses before laying off tens of thousands of people. To me, that would be responsible. He SAID he was going to do this kinds of things. Did he? We don't know yet what went on behind those doors.

Most of the world has a problem with change, and well this is a change for the United States of America. Change can be scary! With saying that, I really would answer this question with an " I have not an Earthly clue!".
I know that it is a huge topic, and I will enjoy reading everyone's comments. But, the truth is we are going to have to accept change....and pray for the best.
I hope that Obama can deliver a good change throughout our country.
I know that if I were president, I could not handle the stresses, so the real question would be if you were the president, " what would you do?".

59. hdjohnson (1174) | 1 year ago | Change takes time. For instance for someone to get into a lot of debt, it just doesn't happen over night and then if they decide to change their wrong habits that caused them to get into debt, and focus on getting out of it. Just because they made the decision in the midst of their troubles, doesn't mean that they are going to automatically be out of debt right away over night. Yes we have a new president who has been elected. He still needs time to be brought up to speed as to all of the USA's emergencies as well as the ones that we don't hear about in the news (all of the behind the scenes) issues as well. It is too premature to think that the new president will be able to wave a magic wand and make more jobs available, lower taxes, decrease the country's trillions of dollars of debt, all overnight.
All of that to say, time will tell if the right man was put into office. Just remember though, 8 years prior, many Americas thought George Bush was the "right" man for the job. Look where we are 8 years later? Give Barack Obama time, that is the one thing that time will do, it will tell on you.

60. catdla1 (2743) | 1 year ago | I voted for Barack Obama because I feel he is the best person for the job. I find him extremely intelligent, quick thinking, diplomatic and compassionate. If anyone can lead our country out of the economic and social mess that we're in, he's the man to do it. I expect an openness with the people from the White House, that hasn't been seen for a long, long time.
