Do you really see "the change" in Obama? |
|
First of all, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to America. It seems that you finally found the hope amidst the economic crisis you've experienced with the previous administration.
Now that President Barack Obama is now leading the most powerful country in the world, do you really think he can handle this kind of responsibility? Good enough that the change he's saying will be clearly seen by 305,595,000 Americans.
I know this is not the right time to be judgmental about anything but perhaps some American myLotters will contribute some useful insights about the newly elected president.

| 63. laymanterms (3) | 1 year ago | Change is really something that has to happen within each individual. So far, change has been obvious. No Minority in America can now really feel like an 'outsider' by the colour of their skin, if anything white people- especially those who may have been judgmental of others by their race in the past- now have a chance to feel what it's like to be pushed aside as 'another.' If Americans want to see change throughout America, then they have to want the change, visualise the change and change themselves- Obama isn't there to do it by himself, nor is he really a catalyst. In fact, and this is merely stating the obvious, he is the Image of Change. He was an individual who wanted change, visualised changed and changed himself and his reality. And yes, a highly intelligent, motivated and charismatic man like President-Elect Barack most definitely would have the responsibility to Lead America, how else would he have been elected?

64. LisaHW (1511) | 1 year ago | He is not yet President - so that's one thing. He will become president after the inauguration in January. One "change" is that it has made a difference in this country for so many African Americans to see a president who is not White, after a history of only White, men, presidents. That, in itself, has been a very nice milestone for the Nation. It will help many minority children and young people see that they, too, could grow up to be president. Until now, many have not believed that's possible for them,
With regard to other change, some people will be disappointed because no one president can do everything he/she wants to do. The US government is set up in a way that makes sure nobody gets to just go into office and make all the changes they want to make. Also, a lot of the major problems that exist are not within the power of any president to change, nor are they necessarily any one president causes all by himself.
Whether he can handle the responsibility of being president, I see no reason to think he can't any more than any other new president. Whether he handles that responsibility in a way that is good for the Nation is something he will have to prove.

65. fec139 (688) | 1 year ago | First, he doesn't take office until his inauguration on January 20, so he's not president yet. Secondly, you're not going to see significant change until halfway through his first term [and I'm sure there will be a second].....it takes time! But he had his first press conference yesterday and he already has a plan! So yes! I believe he is the answer to the "change we need"!

66. mechanicNOT62 (1589) | 1 year ago | Let me state clearly from the first, that I did not want nor voted for Obama but as The Commander in Chief and President of the US Elect, I will pray for him and his performance for the sake of this Nation. But having said that, let me add that I am still doubtful of his promises and expect great difficulties ahead on account of the impossibilities I perceive. Watch the taxes rise so the cities and businesses can be rescued if and when the Initiatives are put in place!

67. benhilo (887) | 1 year ago | I think so! He is not the status quo, somethings are going to go on as before. Like any civil servant structure, it will continue the day to day but the difference here will be the attitude that Obama brings to the job. His willingness to work for the greater good!

68. Sheepie (2561) | 1 year ago | I think that there will definately be some change. He's completely different than George Bush, so I know he is going to change a lot of the old ways the country was run. I know that he has a lot of big plans and he is really ready for this.

69. dragon54u (9611) | 1 year ago | First off, he was not my choice. Neither of them were. But now that he's going to be our president, I'm in full support of him. I think that if he chooses his cabinet wisely and keeps good advisors close, he will do a good job. He's started out on the wrong path, though, choosing a guy that served on the board of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and helped cover up the bamboozling of the public regarding their financial health.
Unfortunately, I think he'll be like every other president of the past 50 years or so--on the take, looking for power and the hell with the people except when it comes to re-election time. I really, really hope he proves me wrong!
