Too much excitement yesterday! |
|
Well, as most of my friends know, I took Taj to the vet yesterday. This meant that I was out pretty early so I went over for an hour to my job.
After I got off the highway to go to my client's and the street before her street was closed. There was a bunch of police cars, a SWAT truck, and in the grocery store's parking lot were lots more police cars and News trucks.
I got to the apartment and turned the TV to the local news to find out what was going on!
Turned out that 5 men had broken into a house and shot up the household. Then they left but were quickly spotted by the police the pick up truck they were in.
The truck hit a pole about a block from my client's place and the men got out and ran. One turned and fired on the police and was shot dead by an officer who had only been on the force for less than a year. The man was wearing a bullet proof vest and carring an AK-47.
They started doing a search for the other 4 men, and ended up with 3 more in custody. They had the area blockaded, but lifted it mid-afternoon.
Today, while I was checking her mail, there were 4 cop cars at her complex, don't know why, didn't stop to ask either.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | Not scared. If I don't see what is going on it doesn't make me scared - so, I didn't see any guns, except in police men's holsters. So long as I don't see armed men running around, I'm just not going to worry myself sick. I just take a bit more care than normal. I consider myself pretty bad news anyway. As the 2 guys that tried to pick me up in college learned - I fight back.

2. Transdisc (18489) | 1 year ago | That is pretty exciting, ElicBxn. This is a far cry from what I thought your discussion was going to be about. I thought it was more news about Taj.
How is Taj doing today?

GardenGerty (20292) | 1 year ago | She fooled me too, old Trans buddy. Maybe she will post some more about Taj. He is a much safer subject to be involved with, I would think, unless he got busy with his claws.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | I'll be posting an update on Taj soon. Just so ya know, he's doing quite well.

3. ladysurvivor (3550) | 1 year ago | Wow, you had the chance to feel real experience of crime in progress. If I were you, I would feel afraid to come to that place. I would postpone it to another day so that I can be away from it. I am always panic when there are crimes happening near me. Here in my country there are a lot of crimes too and some of them happened in our own homes. And it is very terrifying, just imagine you think your home is the safest place you can be but now that is also being jeopardized. What will happen in the future, I just don't know.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | The complex she lives in feels pretty safe most of the time. Tho I think there has been one death since I started working there. But heck, there's been a lot more at mom's place - then again, they are all OLD there!
I am aware of what is going on around me, I know people that can go along and have not even been aware of the police presence because it wasn't in their way. If it doesn't impact them, they never see it. I don't know how those kinds of people even live!

4. GardenGerty (20292) | 1 year ago | That is a lot more excitement than I would want to experience up close and personal. I wonder if the police were still looking for the remaining suspect, or if they were seeking witnesses to the shooting of the one perpetrator. I know they always have to do a very thorough investigation to clear the police officer involved, or I guess to not clear him, perhaps. It will probably be on the news eventually as well.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | It is SOP to have the office off the streets while the "investigation" is done reguarding the shooting, but there were plenty of people around to vouch that the perp shot first. He'll be back on the streets doing a great job soon no doubt.

5. pyewacket (11602) | 1 year ago | Gee, just an ordinary boring dull day, huh? LOL My goodness is all I can say. Weird one expects that kind of "excitement" in my neck of the woods in the big apple, but compared to what happened where you are today, our neighborhood sounds sleepy and dull..nothing like that happens here...thank goodness!

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | Well, I can't say that she lives in the best part of town. But, heck, the place where the home invasion was isn't as good as her area and the news paper said that people there thought it was pretty safe.
I have lived in worse areas and never felt more than normal caution was needed. Not a place that I could leave the doors unlocked at night or when I left.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | Nope, by the time I drove by it was all about 3-4 hours along.
They were advising people to stay inside. I went to work for an hour, went to my mom's and came back. She wanted me to stay at her place, but I had things I had to do -like pick up the roommate and the cat.

ElicBxn (15245) | 1 year ago | I wasn't overly worried. I figure that worry causes more trouble that it stops. I don't often have problems because I walk around like I'm the one that they need to worry about!
