A few months ago our 6 yr old son joined the Tiger Cub Scouts and has been heavily involved in various community activities, fundraising events and Pack Meetings. Today we went along with The Pack to collect bags of food to deliver to the local foodbank. Last Saturday was spent delivering the bags around our neighborhood, and today was spent collecting them.
My hubby and I tagged along and it was great to see the Boy Scouts out there doing community service for a good cause. We had to cover by foot, a number of streets in our neighborhood, and managed to fill the back boot of our Pack Leaders car to the top.
I was so proud of our Tiger Cub Scouts that volunteered and even though we couldn't go to the drop off center afterwards (had a birthday to go to), I know that many people are going to benefit from the service they did today.
Hooray for Boy Scouts!

Hiya Cupid, I'm glad that we were able to take part in something like this and I hope we are doing more throughout the year. A good cause indeed :) thanks for posting!

Last Saturday my parents had a group of kids (I figured it had to be the Boy Scouts) go around their neighborhood and put the plastic sacks with the notes in everyone's front door. I got so excited. I knew the food banks around here were low on food. I qualify for a food bank, but I've always felt since I'm single, I should leave that kind of thing for families. I can get by, and as long as I can, I don't want to take food out of anyone's mouths.
So I told my mom if she'd let me I'd look through her cabinets, and if I found something I'd ask her if it was OK that I put it in the sack. In the course of my search I had three cans of creamed corn, two cans of Campbell's chicken noodle soup, three cans of mixed vegetables, and one can of chicken. It was a non perishable thing. It was for chicken salad, and it was the kind that didn't have to be in the fridge. I didn't have much in my own house, but I did find a big can of crushed tomatoes, so I put that in the sack. By last Tuesday I was ready for the kids to come back by, even though it would be several days before they would come.
I was so thrilled that we had stuff to give. So yesterday morning before 9am I put the sack on top of our brick mailbox for them to pick up. As I looked up and down the street of my parent's neighborhood, I saw I was the only one who had a sack out. And when the boys came, my parent's house still was the only house that had a sack out. I can't tell you how sad I was. My parent's live in a well off neighborhood. They only live there because they got a deal on a foreclosed house. So it was much cheaper than any other houses on the block because of that. I just felt sad. I think a lot of the people just threw the sacks away never to think of it again. And that bothers me. A lot.

That's very cool! That they cared so much to chase you guys down before you left.
I'm hoping that the houses I couldn't see (the street my parent's live on curls around, so I couldn't see about ten houses) contributed. But of the 30 I could see had not.

It would have bothered me too if no-one in our neighborhood didn't participate. You did great AmbiePam!!!!
We had two couples chasing us down because they forgot to put their bags out when we went past their house. I thought that was really nice of them to do that.
I went and cleared out our cupboards and took along tins of food that has been sitting there since our last shopping. Felt good to contribute and knowing that others will benefit, and at least have some food during the holidays.
Thanks for taking part AmbiePam :)
