in our generation today, where women are becoming liberated due to the influence of foreign countries, do you think that Maria Clara character still exists today?

I think there are some women in remote places in the provinces, but not all. Women who live and grew up in the city are more open minded. In the Spanish period, women are not allowed to go to school, are not allowed to work, mingle with friends and don't have their own decision to make. They are more conservative. Men cannot even touch the hand of the women. That is why women in the Spanish period are not open-minded. Not right now that women can do anything they want. I think their are still Maria Clara character in our generation today. It depends on how we define it. And also Maria Clara Character evolves in the 21st century.

I can still see some that has the character but its not totally what the typical Ma. Clara features that I read in the books. Maybe back in the provinces there are still but I doubt if there are many as influence of living here in the metropolis is also far reaching this provinces and probably they would want to follow the lifestyles of those that live here in metropolis.

I think if it does, she would always be the last person falling in a line. I can be still be conservative but I need to be aggressive and assertive to survive in this generation. Anyhows I don't define myself as a Maria Clara, I can say though that I am a woman, fragile at the same time strong.

Yes! Maria Clara character still exist. Although western countries already shared their beliefs and traditions, the parents should be the one who will educate their children regarding things and alike but parents born from 50's-80's are merely conservative type that they don't want to speak to their children that certain things so their children learned it from school and worst from videos and reading materials. But it will depend on the person if he/she will engaged to that situation and indulged theirselves to become liberated. I know a friend who is a Maria Clara type way back in college. I don't know what's up with her now.

well thats what we call nowadays "modern Maria Clara", they possess other characteristics of Maria Clara as what you have mentioned but are able to speak out their hearts, able to handle responsibilities like men can and has strong will power unlike the typical Maria Clara. thank you so much...

Yes, we still have that kind of attributes of Maria Clara now a days, I'm an instructor and I observed in my trainees that at least 10% in my class are still Maria Clara.

I guess, the women today are more assertive, while Maria Clara follows every rule the church says. Maria Clara is a structured girl, though she has a voice, she is reluctant to say what she has in mind. Everybody evolves and I believe, women in the country have evolved too. The very fact that it is in our country who got the first woman president -- I could say that women in our country are pretty much empowered.

Yeah, there are still Maria Claras in our generation, rare but there are still... It's not strange to me coz I have a friend who acts like a Maria Clara even we tried to convince her to change her ways... Maybe it's just what they really are and cannot change their persona...
