|  Ok, I saw this question in our local little paper and had to ask all you MyLot members what your answer to it would be.
Just how desperate for food would you have to be to resort to eating roadkill??? Yup, we're talking about dog, cat, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, possum, deer or skunk. Not three month old rotting roadkill but fresh roadkill...like same day roadkill. Would you just grab a shovel, scoop it up and take it home for dinner? Do you think your family would be thrilled at your craftiness or have you committed on the spot???
Personally, there's no way I could...I'm a huge animal lover and even if it is already dead I couldn't eat one of my furry friends.
Just curious...

| |  Hi my frined, Well Yes, if me and my family were starving and i saw a fresh animal on the side of the road (would save me from having to kill something)I would probably bring it home and cook it up. People do a lot of things they normally would not do in desparate sitiations. Even eat dead humans.

| |  One time when my dad come for a visit and on his way home a deer ran out and hit his truck and it killed the deer. My dad loaded it up and took it home with him for the freezer, it was winter time and cold so the meat stayed good. There is no way I would ever even think of eating dog, cat, raccoon, possum or skunk whether or not it was road kill.

| | I've heard of alot of locals that will do that too if they hit a deer on the road...I couldn't but others actually like deer meat.

| |  Thank goodness I've never been hungry enough to look at roadkill & drool. Coming from the South, I have friends who brag about cooking possum that they have scooped up. I hope I NEVER get that hungry & I refuse to bash those who have!!!

| |  Well, you might say I had roadkill, but I didn't harvest it. It was back on New Year's Eve, 1977 and we went to a friend's place. He had caught and killed a couple of rabbits and on the way back, he saw a truck hit a deer and the deer ran off the road. He stopped and got out and followed it. Sure enough, just a few yards from the road, the deer died. He pulled out his knife and cut off some of the meat (I didn't ask what part of the deer he got.) At least I knew it was really fresh road kill.... So we had deer and rabbit for the meats that night.

| |  No way could I do that! For one, I'm an avid animal lover...I cry if I run over a chipmunk. And we know how many millions of those exist! Secondly, I get sick to my tummy at the site of roadkill. I can't imagine even trying to get anywhere near it. UGH!
