as some of you know i performed a covert operation back in september. we rescued 4 baby cootontails that had been orphaned. we lost the smallest, but the other three did great. they ate well, actually little piggies, and grew fast. we took them out to a safe place and released them the first weekend of november. they had their winter coats and were ready to br set free. it was a very successful release.

That's a 75% success rate! Not bad. My only question is will they be able to find places to live during the winter at this late date. don't rabbits live in a kind of colony?

wooded area - part of the area where we released orphans
they will find or make a place to burrow into, under pine trees or other brushy area. thet have plenty of options where we released them. they will stay within a sq. mile of where we let them go.

See what I know (or don't know) about rabbits. Honestly, they'd be pets to me by now and I couldn't send them off into the cold cruel world to become prey. I'm such a big mush when it comes to small fuzzy critters....

I saw the release pictures on your myspace. I was going to ask about the runt of the bunch but I just assumed it didn't make it...poor little thing. The other three sure did look healthy and cute.
