About how many movies do you think you could put on a 1 TB External hard drive?  

About 215 standard DVD movies about 50 Blue Ray movie should fir on 1 tb drive. If you compress the movies with MPEG 4 compression about 800.

Movies are usually between four and eight gigabytes, so you figure it out. I'm not good at math, and I'd just give myself a headache trying to do it. Is a terabyte 100 gigabytes? If it is, you can get at least eleven movies on it, probably several more, if some of them are single layer.

Wow thats a lot of bytes. If 1 terabyte is 1000 gigabytes and thats means 1,000,000 megabytes and a movie is at least 600-1000 megabytes or maybe more. That means at least 1000 or more movies can fit in a 1 TB hard drive

Its depends on the file type that you are using. You should be able to store many movies if you are using the compression formats, if you are using standard dvd movies format it will be very less in number to store more movies in to 1 TB. If you are using mpeg 4 format u you can store more movies than other format. Real video format can store a lot of movies in one TB. So all its depends on the file format that you are using.

I think you can put in a lot more than 1000 if u compress them but quality also suffers.
So the best thing is to compress in a format which does'nt suffers loss in quality.
The best format for this purpose is .mkv or matroska format movies encode in it are almost dvd quality but only 300mb.
You have to see it to believe it.
