Now Here's A Real Waste Of Taxpayer Money  

Lawmakers don't care about the cost they don't have to pay for it.
They do stuff like that everywhere.
If the government took into consideration the cost of things BEFORE they did it think of the money they'd save.
I mean look at how much money they spend on pens just so they can give out a pen the governor or president signed a bill with. Big deal. He wrote ONE freaking letter with it.

That is a colossal waste of money! Was the change via a vote? The money would have been much better spent with an RFK scholarship fund for college-bound students. LOL...I bet they could find a grafitti artist to do it for a LOT less.

$4 million to change the signs? how many signs could there be?
i agree that it is a nice way to commemorate a person, but like you said, there are a LOT of other things $4 million could go to!
with the economy in the sh*tter, why the hell are the "bigwigs" wanting to do that NOW?! doesnt make any sense at all.

Hi pye~When I first heard this plan to rename the bridge I
couldn't believe what I was hearing. While this is a lovely
sentiment why now? With the economy in such a mess what on
earth prompted this decision all of a sudden? People are not
going to even remember to call it by it's new name since it
has been known as the Triboro Bridge for so many years! Why
is it so important now to change it's name in the middle of
an economic crisis? It couldn't wait? It has waited all these
years? What politician decided that this is the time to do
this at this particular time? I'm sure if people were asked
if they thought that this was necessary they would say what?
It is a wonderful tribute, but why now? That money could go
to so many more important things! I'm sure RFK would certainly
agree! I would hope that someone from his family would step
forward and say something to this affect!

I suppose this would take a lot more analysis than what I've got to offer, because this is not the first not the major question in my mind. It seems like an awful lot of money for simple street signs, but it's just like so many other things where the local, state and federal governments WASTE money on while there are so many other more basic needs, such as food and shelter.
See, I have a major concern over space travel and the gargantuan expenses that go along with it while there are so many people starving and dying of diseases in our world.
But I know many will say I'm ignorant for thinking this way and for caring more about people than animal extinctions. Other people are more "humane" than me, and so they care more about the animals than the humans. That's so odd!
THEN AGAIN, you might consider that the expense on those signs and their installation provide employment, circulate money and motivate tourism!? Let's just flip a coin.

It is pretty wild how something that on the surface looks very good is in fact pretty bad. They had to do the same thing here when they changed the name of BWI airport to Thurgood Marshall a year or so ago. Or, MANY years ago, probably within 6 months of making this new road they renamed it. That was confusing and sometimes I still call it the old name - it's been changed for about 15 years or so...

We never "think" about the expense side of things, only that "yeah, it sounds like a nice way to commerorate someone."

That does seem like an unfortunate expenditure. It does seem like quite a waste, especially at this time. I am thinking of submitting a bid to do that work. I bet I could do it all for just $3.8 million and save the taxpayers a lot of money.

I'm going to go sharpen all of my crayons right now...

Yeah, I bet Ted Kennedy could pay for it alone if he just gave up a drink a day!

I cannot understand why the govermant is doing all this and spending out so much money for a simple signs, why can't just put a little plaque, after all Robert Kennedy has been dead for may years and if they want to that sort of things le the family pay for it as your rightly said, It does makes me think that the goverment had the money and this credit crunch is only meant for people who are suffering already.
