Chelsea held to a 0-0 draw by NewCastle, Liverpool held 0-0 by Fulham, Manchester United held to a 0-0 draw by Aston Villa and Arsenal went down 0-3 to Manchester City.
Is it an indication that the big 4 domination is over now and the other teams are catching up? Teams like Aston Villa and Man City are regularly beginning to challenge the big 4. Tottenham under Harry also looks the same. Is the EPL evening out this year?
What are your views?
Cheers!

Hi,ram_cv,
It will not be correct to say that the domination is over because of a single draw or loss.By losing or drawing a single game you can't make a decision for the whole season. No team can win every match, some matches they draw, some lose.It is part of the game.
Two season's before Liverpool finished 5th but won the Champion's league, but the very next season they pulled up and were back in the elite. In that season,Everton had finished in 4th,but they could not do much next season. It is not about money,it is about class.
This season Arsenal is looking in trouble, but I am sure they will bounce back and perform well.Manchester City now has a big spending owner,it will be interesting to see in the next one or two seasons, whether money can buy you success or not.Aston Villa is playing good, but they are still a long way behind the big 4 in terms of quality and class.
It will really be an interesting season to watch for.

You are right, one loss or draw does not end a domination. But this season all the top clubs have generally struggled more than before. Arsenal and Man U specially have lost a few matches and have drawn more than the past few seasons. Yes, the example of Everton is a good one and that might be significant here too, but the difference here seems that clubs like Aston Villa, Man City and Tottenham are not as cash strapped as Everton was and can build on their success rather than regressing.

No. It is just a temporary blip.
It would be great for football if the big money clubs failed to 'buy' success and the matches were more equal, but it is unlikely. Since the big clubs buy up all the best players even if they do not wish to play them, they stop other clubs using them against them.
I am afraid it will be back to normal next week and the big 4 will gradually pull away from the rest. I hope I am wrong, but the premier league already looks like a two horse race.

I agree with you that it would be great for football. But, this season things seems to be different. Chelsea and Liverpool have pulled away, then there is a clutch of clubs vying for the next two spots and then the rest who can all be pulled into the relegation dogfight.
So it is very interesting this season.
Cheers!

I hate the "big four" labeling. In my opinion, Chelsea is only next to the other 3 English football giants. I oppose including a team with only 3 Premiership titles, like Chelsea, next to Liverpool (18 titles), Arsenal (13 titles) and Manchester United (10 titles). I mean, Leeds Utd. also has 3 titles... if they would be in the Premiership, would it be a "big five"?? Not to mention teams like Aston Villa (7 titles), Newcastle (4 titles), etc.
OK, now that I've let out some steam deriving from my personal grudge against Chelsea, I don't think other teams will climb on the first 4 places this year. Actually, I feel that this season, other teams have even less odds they had during past seasons. Man City... indeed, they have been challenging the top positions lately, but this season, even if they did invest a lot, I don't think they'll get much. That's because bringing great players doesn't necessarily make a great team. My example is, again, Chelsea. They needed a few years to gel as a team, and some good managers that turned a collectivity of players into a really good team that can fight for the title.

I don't mean to insult the people at Chelsea, the results they've had over the last years are the result of hard work and I don't think that anyone can contest their merits. I just think that Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool, based on their overall results are on a different scale than Chelsea.

I can understand your outrage at Chelsea's meteoric growth. Even I do not think money should buy success... But whether we like it or not, the last 5 seasons, the story at the top has been of these 4 clubs... In fact, it has been more three of these clubs and Liverpool. This season Liverpool seems to have taken that extra step in the Premier League...
Cheers!

Nope just a temporary blip. By all accounts Chelsea should of beaten Newcastle easily, Liverpool had chances to win and Man Utd could of won at Villa. Arsenal getting beat by Man City is not that big of a shock after the week they add.
I still reckon by the end of the season the "Big 4" will be far ahead of the rest of the pack.

no. i do not think so and somehow i have the feeling that the results were fixed or rigged to please the bookmakers. many lost heavily on these games. Results like these were familiar in the past where you will have surprises on the same day. do you still remember last or 2 season ago when the last 2 unbeatable teams, liverpool and arsenal both lost on the same day? so there is a lot more in soccer these days and i still think the big four are a class above the rest.

i dont think the domination of the big four in the english premier league is getting over. you say that because all 4 teams did not win their games. you cannot expect a team to win all the games.credits should be given to the other teams for their performance against the top teams. but the top 4 will bounce back. arsenal seem to look a lot shaky. but the other 3 will be better in the games to come.
happy mylotting!!!!

It was a dramatic outcome four all the gangs of four, with Gunners losing by conceding 3 goals against ManCity.
Ya it seems ,cos the other teams like Aston Villa as you said are a looming threat for the big four & the other remaining are are also showing their tenacity to retain its position in EPL. But.. but.. lets wait more , maybe this was like one of the rarest things to happen again...all big three without a goal and the other losing.
