Sometimes there families bought in music that the patient liked and we did sometimes get a response which at times seemed unbelievable. Some of the people who had been in a coma said later that they could hear some of the things that were going on around them but they just could not fight their way back until they heard something special to them. So it is always worth trying to get through to someone in a deep coma. never give up.

I guess it would be on an individual basis but I feel some patients definately know when a loved one is standing there talking to them. It's been proved many times because on several different occasions, the patient has squeezed the person's hand or gave some type of eye movement.
So, yes! I do believe in individual cases that this can happen.
