Where there's smoke, there's fire

People love to gossip. That is a world known fact. Some fight against it and say they dont do it or at least they dont like it, but at the end at one point we all do.
We love sticking our noses in other peoples private affairs, like its our business whats happening to or with them. Sometimes its true and sometimes it has nothing to do with the real facts.
Sometime people do spread rumors about others...lies for the sake of hurting them. Some personal agenda or whatever is the reason of it, I think its just mean.
Do you like to gossip?
Do you believe that where is the smoke there must be a fire...meaning that if people are talking about something, then it must be some truth in it? Or do you take gossip just as a innocent fun?

I think that sometimes people gossip just to hear themselves speak. Others gossip to either hurt someone or to try make alliances. I do not think that gossip has to have any element of truth, though people who are good at manipulation are usually able to tie pieces of the truth into their lies. This way people cannot determine deceit from reality.

Where there is smoke, there may not be fire, and that is the way I see it. People nowadays are getting more and more creative at building stories which have not even an iota of truth. I dare say this because I had been gossiped with total fiction. As an example once a cleric accused me of raping my own student. Since the words came from a cleric most people believed in the gossip and avoided me as if I was carrying a plague. Later on several of them realised that it was a complete lie. The cleric started the story because he was not successful in winning her heart.

Nope i dont like gossip and i hate people who likes to gossip. i dont know why they did those things and why dont just mind their own. besides its their own life.

I might say something about someone say a neighbour that maybe they look like they are up to something, but I would just tell my husband or bring it up. I would not go out of my way to gossip about it but if someone else said the same thing I would have to tell them I thought the same way. I suppose this is classed as gossiping though.
I think everyone says something or has an opinion behinds ones back. I think it is human nature and if anyone says they do not do it they must be a saint, and I respect them.
