bad thoughts and lost mail

My new landlord needed some documents that I didn't possess such as my birth certificate and my social security card. Of course, I had things things, but they're at my mother's house because she thinks I'm too irresponsible to possess them. So I had her make a copy and mail it off to me last Thursday. The interview was this Tuesday. By the time of the interview, the documents still hadn't arrived so I called her back and she faxed over a copy.
I began to get really paranoid that someone had stolen this letter with my documents in it and was going to use it to get a job illegally or commit some crime and pretend to be me. I don't have to worry about them applying for credit or anything because my credits already bad.
My assistant said that if someone actually committed a crime I could prove it wasn't me by DNA which I guess would be my only saving grace in that situation. Well, that and moral outrage (not that that will get you very far).
As I was waiting for this letter to arrive, which it did yesterday, I began to have truly bad thoughts about humanity. I was imagining some crazy Mexican lady (forgive my racism) who wanted to murder someone for some reason taking my id and hacking him up to bits. Luckily, the envelope was unharmed. I think all this writing that I've been doing lately has overworked my imagination. What do you all think?

Well, since these are such important documents you were needing for proof of who you are, etc. you do have a right to be paranoid and wonder where these are. I know myself with not having copies of some of these things and how hard it is to get them, and worried about your Credit, and identity, etc. it is worth the worry, but at the same time I am sure God was on your side to make sure nothing happened to them as well. It just is that the mail is Slower this time of yr. so that makes for a lot of it for sure. Wishing you the Best.

With todays day in age you should never send anything through the mail. 1. because it takes far too long and 2. because it is far to easy to loose.
Strong suggestion next time you need any of these documents copied have your mom fax them right away like she did the second time that way you know it's only ending up in your hands. Or have her scan it and send it via email. It is convenient and a heck of a lot safer. Try to do that so that you don't get caught in a position of having to explain yourself to an officer that it wasn't you but someone who got a hold of your id.
Sorry I'm not trying to be mean just be extra careful and try to do it in a means were you get it right away so you don't' have to worry about waiting. Sorry this happened and I hope the documents show up some time. If they don't I would strongly suggest you contact your local post office (the place your mom sent it out of) and report that you haven't gotten the letter in x amount of days. I don't know if they have some sort of tracking system but it's worth the shot to see what happened to your mail.
