| I was wondering why snow was white. Is it just cause god made it that way or if there is a more scientific reason | | mountains | | | | |

| | My Dear Friend In fact everything is made by GOD but their is a scientific reason for it . First we of all remember that light consists of or is a mixture of seven colours The scientific reason is ,the color of an object is the color of light it reflects . For example , snow absorb all the colours of light accept white(or comination for white colour) , that is why it looks white in colour Thanks for raising such a good discussion !!! | | Definitely there is a scientific reason behind. The reason we are seeing objects with colours, is because the trick of light. Objects are reflecting light partially and absorbing partially. So, objects that reflect all the lights will appear as white. The sunlight consisted of full spectrum (all colours), so the snow the appear white in the sunlight because it could reflect all the lights. If you just turn a green light, then you will the snow is green in colour. Hope this clear your doubts on why snow is white in colour in the sunlight. | | | | | | |

| | Bright marshmallow-colored snow blinds us with its gleaming white color because it reflects beams of white light. Instead of absorbing light, snow's complex structure prevents the light from shining through its lattice formation. A beam of white sunlight entering a snow bank is so quickly scattered by a zillion ice crystals and air pockets that most of the light comes bouncing right back out of the snow bank. What little sunlight is absorbed by snow is absorbed equally over the wavelengths of visible light thus giving snow its white appearance. So while many natural objects get their blue, red, and yellow colors from absorbing light, snow is stuck with its white color because it reflects light. | | | | | | |

| | The snow is not always white. Somewhere, there is pink snow. This is because the snow bonds with iron. You will be amazed more if you know the structure of the snow crystal. | | | | | | |
