hi annjilena, boy, this is really a very sad story.. i cant imagine how terrible the mom must be feeling.. true, it might have been a different story if the man could have spoken english, he could have explained that he was waiting for his mom, or get help to call his mom... but - 50,000 volts of electricity.. were guards trying to execute the man, or subdue him ??.. just wondering did anyone check to see if the man was 'normal'.. no speaking 'dissability', can he read/write.. his iq - 'normal' ?.. i dont quite understand how a 'normal' person would be so upset, throwing things - do things that could upset the local authorities in a foreign land.. i mean, if it was me.. i know i would be as timid as mouse... or at least ask for an interpreter...

this man had been waiting for nine hours waiting on his mom he was frustrated by then he was babbling to the police they didn,t know he didn,t speak any english at all. when mom came they told mom he was not there but he was there wating then.so he started lashing out trying to get their attention that he was tired of waiting.i think they went about doing this all wrong.so much could have been done different here.as resort this man lost his life.thank you for sharing

Yes I do believe that a person settling in new country should learn the language prior to immigration. He or she should do their effort to integrate in the new community or else he will suffer from great problems. © ronaldinu 2008

Hi! I do believe that a certain amount of English would do a foreigner good when visiting the United States. I guess that's one of the reasons why visitors would get or bring a book of translations of simple statements in the language of the country they're visiting, because there is really a need to communicate. That story that you just said is sad. I just wonder why a translator was not presented to the man. Oh well ... happy myLotting to you, anyway.

yes I agree that the person should know the basics of the language of ther country they are visiting. If for some reason they are not able to learn the language thn they should have someone who speaks the language with them at all times. As in the above case the security guards could have brought someone, sach as a trasilater for the man to find out what the problem was. I do feel sorry for the mother and their fmily though!

Usually around the world, you will be able to communicate okay if you speak either the native language, english, french, or spanish. Unfortunately in America, it is very rare to find a native American who speaks a second language. I would say that if you'd like to come to America to visit and you don't have anyone who can translate with you, it would be best to study English first.
