I like all kinds of music but I would have to say that one of my all time favourite artists has to be Karen Carpenter! I just love her voice and when I insert the cd into my cd player I experience something that I just cannot explain! In actual fact, I'm listening to her right now as I create this discussion! My breathing is so relaxed and it feels as though I'm forgetting about everything around me! This is what music is about! Music should be able to take you to different places, you should be able to express different feelings! So, are you a fan of the Carpenters? I treasure this cd; I treasure her voice! Andrew

Hi Andrew! I envy you right now that you are relaxing while listening to Karen Carpenter's voice. Yes, her voice is soothing and relaxing. I love her too and i used to know almost all of their songs. When i was younger, i used to imagine and day dream while, listening to her songs. Whenever i hear Rainy days and Mondays, i imagine that i am with my boyfriend and we are just passing time away. Watching raindrops from the window and of course drinking a hot cup of chocolate or coffee. But that was just a dream then, and it never came true.

My body really relaxes whenever I listen to Karen Carpenter, I'm sure that she was destined to become a singer in order to distribute peace and love in the world! Karen Carpenter, if you can read this, I love you and I love your voice!!! Andrew

I think I fell in love with Karen Carpenter's voice the first time I heard it. I love all her songs and they are quite melodramatic and full of sadness but they are timeless! I think the movie is called 'The Carpenters, their story!' I'm pretty sure that's it. I have the movie myself although I have not watched it for some time now. It's truly a masterpiece if you are a big fan of the carpenters! Good luck and welcome to My Lot. Andrew

I am an ardent follower of Carpenters and the brother-sister duo can actually make me do things that I wouldn't have in normal circumstances. Their evergreen melodies is a bliss! I have grown with their music and their songs have elevated me in toughest of times. It's sad how she ended up in life and in a short span they created history. I just LOVE CARPENTERS. They are breathers anytime.

I love the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter had such a fantastic voice and I really like their songs. "Close to you", "Top of the world" and "Goodbye to love" are my favourite songs and I listen to those songs over and over. Many years ago I saw a tv commercial where "Close to you" was used, I didn't know the song at that time but I couldn't get it out of my head and I decided to find the singer. That's how I first discovered the Carpenters and I have loved their music ever since.

I love Carpenters songs, Top of the World is my fave of course I love the singer Karen as well. We have Claire dela Fuente, the Karen Carpenter of the Phils., here, her voice is very much similar of that of Karen that listening to her is just like hearing Karen singing. She was so happy just recently when one of Karen's brothers ask her to do some duet songs with him.

Yes, I too like the Carpenters. Karen was an incredible singer and their music was so relaxing. It is unfortunate that a person with so much talent could die from anorexia.

I guess I keep the Carpenters video in a secret place in my flat! Only I'm allowed to view this video and this is my prized possession! Her voice is so magical and it really does take me to another level! It's just so sad that her life had to come to an end! Andrew

I guess that's the terrible thing when you are a star and you are always at the forefront of the media's eyes! You are always trying to look your best and you really do take to heart any negative comments that you receive. Whenever I listen to her voice it feels like she is singing to me personally, that's wonderful. Andrew

When I was in high school, my singing coach/choir director had me singing all the Carpenter songs because Karen Carpenter's voice range is so forgiving. You're right about her voice being soothing - as is the tempo of the music. I've always loved the Carpenter songs, being old enough to hear them when they were first released. Even though most people like Close to You and We've Only Just Begun as wedding songs, and favor their melancholy songs, my favorite Carpenters song was always Top of the World. It's irresistibly upbeat and cheerful, even if it is a little sappy.

Yes, I truly love her voice, it's very powerful and can move mountains! I do love "Solitair", a gem of a song! I think that the woman played her well in the documentary, she looked exactly like her. Anyway, I love listening to her voice from time to time and I guess I look at it as being a kind of therapy for my soul! Andrew

Yeah, I remember the Carpenters but I do not know much about their song. I only remember one song I love so much....
"When I was young, I listen to the radio. Waiting for my favorite song"
"When they play, I sing a long. It's make me smile...."
It was "Yesterday once more", it's bring back my childhood memory.
I home I could get their best album around my country.

Hi Andrew, nice topic you have going here. I love Karen Carpenter also. She is the epitome of fine singing. Her voice was not only dark and melancholy but also uplifting and bright. She was quite versatile in her vocal ability. You mentioned that you have two CD's with all of her songs, but that would only be touching the tip of what Karen Carpenter has recorded and the range of her abilities. The hits were great, but many of their album tracks were outstanding. On their 1975 album "Hrizon" Karen does a heart wrenching version of the Eagles' "Desperado" which in my mind is the best version of the song recorded. Also from "Horizon" is the fantastically upbeat "Happy", which contains a rockin' arp synthesizer and electric guitar solo at the end. There's the eclectic 1977 album "Passage" with the song "B'wana She No Home" which finds Karen singing in this ultra smooth somewhat authoritative voice as she gives orders to her servant, the song is a rollicking and rocking jazz fusion number done very true to the genre. Then there's her sublime solo album which is a great recording basically it's a jazz album including some pop numbers and three disco songs. Every song on her solo album, simply titled "Karen Carpenter" is outstanding. It's well worth checking into Karen Carpenter as the hits only touch the surface and do not show the whole personality and versatilty of the music of the Carpenters/Karen Carpenter.
