I loved The Mummy, though it wasn't my favorite from Anne Rice. I read it soon after it came out in 1991 and enjoyed it very much. From what I understand it was written by Anne Rice specifically to be a movie. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way so it was released as a novel instead. I think that's why I like it so much. It's written to be very visual. The descriptions of people and places are so detailed that you can visualize it like playing a movie in your imagination.
The characters are very much in Anne Rice's style, very gothic and very sexy. If you enjoyed her Vampire Chronicles I'm sure you will enjoy The Mummy.

I've read most of Rice's book and enjoyed them, but I wouldn't spend much money on any of them. The You'll probably like the Mummy if you enjoy that kind of book, especially if you like Rice's writing. You don't need to buy it new. Amazon and half.com probably have very cheap copies, and every library has her books.

I can't give you any direct feedback on her novel 'The Mummy' But I must say all of her previous books vampire novels are bloody amazing :) No pun intended. I know since then she's disowned those books as she has found god etc. But regardless of anything she is an amazing writer. The books I've read of hers I've never regretted. Needless to say I think it would be worth while to get the book. You could always go to amazon or try to find a book review before you get it to see if the book is really for you and how others were or weren't accepting to it. There should be some summaries that don't give away the book. Happy reading and mylotting :)
