Brewing Coffee is Such Hard Work!

The process went like this: (1) Clean the coffeemaker as I just scored it from my mom yesterday. She has a new one and this one's fairly new too but as somebody else has used it, so I had to clean the carafe, the filter holder and the part that holds the water. (2) Figure out how it works. Not that hard. (3) Search for our coffee filters. I knew we had a bunch of them around and somehow they all disappeared. So I opened every kitchen cabinet and drawer and found a pack of filters that could work but they were not what I was sure of that we had. (4) Open the new can of ground coffee. What ever happened to those easy-to-open foil covers? I had to use two can openers to open this one. It's like made to fight off Superman or someone with a lot of strength. I think I may have broken the manual can opener so I had to switch to the smaller automatic one which took about five minutes to go around that lid. (5) Finally, I put the preferred amount of coffee in the filter area, poured the water in and turned it on. (6) After a couple minutes, enjoy the coffee of my labor. Have you ever had a hard time doing a simple task?

Hahaha.. That's heck of a task! I remember preparing coffee, pure ground coffee, South Indian style! But then, I prepared a whole lot for the whole day. But that didn't taste that good, the flavor somehow goes off. Coming to your point, I do not know why but I somehow can't really manage ironing a Shirt well! That's silly but somehow I get stuck somewhere. And anything that I MANAGE to do leaves me with a feeling of non-accomplishment!

Now your statement about preparing coffee just made me feel like a useless and thankless jerk! I haven't ironed any of my clothes for a long time, mimpi. But I must say, if I need to do it again, I think I would excel! So send them my way if you want, you just have to wait a long time for them to get back to you.

I can top that. I'm a coffee snob and don't like the stuff in the supermarket. There is one brand, illy, that is drinkable, but its $10 for 200 grams. I have to roast my beans for 15 minutes and then let them cool for about an hour. I do it once a week. Getting the coffee roaster was a chore. It was my grandma's and my parents sent it to me because they don't use it. They have great coffee available in their town. I'm sure my grandma up in heaven is happy that her very old roaster she brought with her from Italy is being used by her granddaughter every week. After the coffee is cool, I grind the beans for about a minute. I need to stand holding the lid of the grinder down. I've been out of disposable filters for a few years so I use my reusable one that needs to be rinsed every day. I know I can buy them in the super, but I'm frugal and don't want to spend the money. My coffee maker is broken so I boil the water in the kettle and pour it over the ground coffee. I need to do it a few times to make a large cup. It's quite a chore to get a perfect cup of coffee. Thankfully coffee is about the only thing my cats and dogs don't pester me to have a bit of so I can enjoy it without guilt and without them begging. I roasted my beans a few minuted ago and will take out a few while still hot so I can make a cup before they cool. I love coffee.

Our dollar stores don't sell coffee filters. The Illy in the grocery store is just plain Illy in a can. It's a nice can, but a can is still a can.

You love coffee? Really, catlady? I couldn't tell. I've seen those fancily packed Illy coffee brands. And yes, your process is only one that a real coffee enthusiast would make oneself go through. But I really love the thought that you are using your grandma's roaster from Italy. If you go to a dollar store near you, they sell a LOT of those small disposable filters for a dollar. Keep on enjoying the coffee. Thanks for a wonderful read, Catlady.

Wow, I never realized all the fun I was missing by not being a coffee drinker. I have worked at some office jobs where for some odd reason certain individuals thought, perhaps because I was female (?) that I should make their coffee for them, but I always said "No, thank you!" with an emphasis on the "No" part of it. For some even odder reason that seemed to make some of them quite angry. Well, that was their problem, as there was no way on planet earth that I was going to "perform." Ah, but most things in the kitchen take longer than they should when I am at the helm. That doesn't mean I can't do the tasks, just that they are not something I enjoy doing or do gracefully.

Yes, the plants and I get along quite well. They don't drink coffee either. It wasn't in my job description. There are many things I used to do that were not in my job description, but making coffee was not one of them. Some did not understand that since I don't drink it and they did that if they wanted some they should make their own.

I like to make coffee and share it with other people just as long as they do not tell me to do it. Did you tell them that coffeemaking wasn't part of your job description? Well, it seems like your aerogarden plants seem to be growing really quickly.

LOL. If people offer to make coffee, fine with me. But I don't tell them to if they don't think it. Besides, I have a certain system as to how I like my coffee so I do it mostly myself. I'm still contemplating if I should put Aerogarden on my wishlist. I don't want to financially overwhelm my potential gift givers. But I am asking for an already-grown mint plant.

LOL. If this happened the last year, I would have gone back to bed. I'm trying to save as much money as I can so I don't really try to spend it on coffee outside as it tends to get expensive. I mean, 4-5 dollars ain't much a day but add that all up for 7 days. Besides, I get free coffee at work too. But I need my coffee to start my day. I have noticed that I get good feedback from people when they see me without brushing or combing my hair.

dude thats no biggie. lol. I work at a coffee shop so making a coffee.. latte etc can be a lot of work. I wish it was that easy. I know what you mean though.. simple things can become hard because of circumstances such as things not being put back where they are supposed to be.

LOL! Monkeyrose, I used to manage a café. Now I feel more of doofus! Sister used up all the coffee filters, I found that out. And I agree with things not being put back where they're supposed to be. It takes more time searching for them than just putting them back right away. Thanks a latte, Monkeyrose!

Hi SaintAnne! We don't have a coffee maker and thanks for that, lol. We just have instant coffee every morning. I have hard time doing ironing, specially husband business shirts. I'm glad that you enjoy the coffee of your labor after the hard work.

I don't know how to brew coffee, though I've bought a coffee maker for quite some time. I still prefer to drink 3 in 1 coffee, it's so much convenient. But I always think it's fun to brew your own coffee, perhaps I should try it out one day when I'm free.

I was using a coffeemaker... it's not that hard but it just took longer for me today. I don't think I'll be manually brewing coffee any time soon, kaka. Thanks for the response.

Well you do realize that you could have completely eliminated each and every one of those steps if you had of made Point 1: "Have Mum make it!" lol. At least this one time anyways and she DID used to own it..... It does though sound like you may have discovered a new exercise plan! Coffee so therefore caffeine AND a work-out! I reckon you could make millions if you get the marketing just right. Personally I will have a difficult time doing any task that involves me fixing something or building anything really. I always have good intentions but am absolutely hopeless when it comes to handyman type stuff! I'm the guy that puts up shelves and then the books slide off it; or change a washer in a tap and the electricity shorts out...... You name it, I can mess it up! I hope it was good coffee after all that by the way!

Remind me not to call you or ask for any handyman tips, James. If I let my "mum" make it, then that would be another long process. (1) Since I have to leave the house to go to my "mum's" house, I have to take a shower. (2) Since I make myself look presentable after a shower, then I have to decide what to wear and put a little bit of make-up on. (3) Make an early phone call, possibly waking up my "mum", to tell her I'm driving over with the box of coffeemaker I just took from her house yesterday so she should get herself out of bed and make me my coffee. (4) I drive over there for 10 minutes, do the set-up, wait, drink. (5) Put the coffeemaker back in its box, make sure to ask for the appropriately-sized filters from my mom and take it back home. Whew! That's too much to ask from me!

Hahahaha. Point taken! I wouldn't ask my own Mother because it would mean having to listen to her complain about having to make it after giving me the coffee maker and blah, blah, blah..... I don't think I could take it! lol. I would much rather go it alone and risk blowing up the whole apartment building instead I think!

LOL. Knowing my mom, she would get out of bed and make it for me and laugh. That is why I try not to bother her with my ineptitude regularly. I try to give her a break once in a while.

Brewing a coffee probably lots of works. but as a coffee drinker I would rather do the hard work and satisfy myself of the taste after than having it easy done but dislike the taste.

I think you are right, carmel. Although sometimes I find myself not liking what I made too. Sometimes it would be really strong and dark! And then weak and watery. I like it strong though. Thanks for the response!
