decorating baby's room on a budget

As new parents, we are very excited for the coming of our firstborn. We are excited as well as nervous, trying to make sure that we have everything that we and the baby will need with his arrival. One of the things I did was to redecorate our bedroom. Actually this is not a separate bedroom--this is our bedroom that we are trying to transform into a baby-friendly zone. First thing I did is to transform a blank wall into baby's space. We intend to have this wall as "BabyLandia" or "Baby's Garden". And when people come to visit us, they can pose for photos with this scene at the background. They can carry our baby, too, if they want. Anyway, what I did was buy several colors of the material called "rubber slice" from our local upholstery store. Then I cut out common shapes, like clouds, sun, birds, grasses and flowers, and some tiny animals like butterflies, a caterpillar and a bee. And using double sided tape with foam, I taped everything onto the blank wall, so we have a new vista in our room. Of course, you can have this scene painted. But my husband said that painting would have a different effect thant he rubber cut outs. We also emptied out one cabinet and assigned it as baby's cabinet already. And since we don't have a name yet, we just named it baby and I put a plant beside it. My next project at the Red, Black and White stuff for baby. I will be making posters and a mobile from colored cardboards and a blanket that I will hand-sew. This room is my hubby's former room that he shared with his brother before, hence the blue motif of the room. Anyway, we don't have a budget for repainting--so blue it is, whether our baby is a boy or girl. You don't have to have a lot of money to do this. We just made the most of what we have. And I used my creativity. These are just simple crafts that you can do at home at a very minimal cost than hiring a designer.

These are some great ideas. I like the idea of the rubber cut outs- they give it a 3D effect. I painted one wall in my son's room- a jungle theme. I also made curtains, and a couple of wall hangings. It is amazing what you can do with some basic supplies and a little imagination! Blue walls are fine, even if you have a girl. Just dress the room up so it is cheerful, and the specific colors don't matter as much.

I dont know how far you are I am over the 20 week mark (20w3d) I still have done nothing at all for the baby. With my son my sister did his room with borders (toy story) and same curtains, pillows bed spreds and toys. When we moved out he changed what he liked often so I could not keep up with him so the simple thing was I would go get contact paper (or whatever is called the one that you wrap books in) and they have every posible design. I would cut up the pictures and stick them on the wall they were easy to put on and to take down. Also there are so many craft pages where you can print out designs to make things like you said for a mobile or things like that. I also used to stick cards that my son got on the wall as well it was personal (and people loved it when they saw their card on the wall) and it was bright and looked nice.
