Owwwweee!!! My poor back , Knees, shoulder, ( whole body)!! I fell this morning

Holy Crap! With all the pain that I deal with daily is enough to choke a horse, this morning as I was walking out to my car after yesterday's SLEET we had, the side walk really didn't look too bad, and the same around my car, or so I thought I'm here to tell you one second I am upright and the next I am on my knee's and had I not been so close to my car and already had the back door open I would've landed flat faced on the hard concrete, "stinkin black ice" Oh Lord I hurt so bad I immediately had tears in my eyes and then my brain is like get up, GET UP .....GET UP BEFORE SOMEONE SEE'S YOU!! why is it that we usually think that right away you know? Well its not a pretty picture either me getting up in any position but when you crash to your knee's on hard concrete trust me, it jars your whole stinking body!! I get up cuss a lot, get in my car drive out to the farm to see to my pets there tell my Dad what happened to me and why I am walking worse than normal and way slower, I call my chiropractor Thank God he is there this morning and not home sick with the kids or something, I just went to my regular doctor on Tuesday and had gotten everything popped and so on, and I tell you what I just could hardly stand to be "touched" this morning and I knew he had to cause a lot more pain to fix what I had just messed up, but I'm not joking now I had big old tears in my eyes before I left there, that's how much pain I was in, and I still may have to go to the ER and have them check my poor old knee's...I have trouble there too but I'm guessing after crashing down on the hard cold concrete I'm gonna have more trouble now, I told him you know I think I've got blood down there as something feels wet to me, with it so cold out though I didn't bleed long but when I got home I had been bleeding all that time had to clean up my leg and knee's I've got some nice shiny bruises already forming there, I've got my pain patches on them and all wrapped up, after icing them for awhile I'm sure later on I'll switch to my heating pad, right now I am just waiting for my pain killer's and stronger muscle relaxer to kick in so I can go rest for awhile; I am not starting my winter out here very good at all, Falling is one of my biggest fears I have and I fall enough from the back spasms but now that I have to go to the farm to see to my pets daily this time of year its not good not good at all but I'm not giving them , not for anything so I guess I need to just shut up about it and deal with it. When I had my own home out in the country it was really nice when the weather got bad all I had to do was go outside , down the steps all the food and my pets and the doghouses everything was under the two car sized carport I had there but overhang type of roof it was great no ice scraping to be done only when the wind kicked up wildly did It ever get on my car but seldom that happened; so yeah yesterday's sleet we had turned out to be black ice for me this morning; damn miserable luck I have... If I don't respond too quickly I'm asleep (G)! ok??

I HATE black ice! It is the worst thing about this weather! What you need is a long, warm bath just to relax everything. I can also recommend learning how to do EFT. It's really simple and, as Gary Craig says, you can try it on ANYTHING! Watch the videos here: http://www.emofree.com/a/?3252/12 and then go on over to the 'Learn EFT' page here: http://www.emofree.com/a/?3252/1 It takes maybe 30 minutes to read the manual, another 15 mins to learn how to rate your pain (or other emotions) before and after; what are the tapping points and how to make your own 'affirmation statements' ... and then a couple of minutes every time you find a pain or emotion you need to ease! Painkillers, pain patches, muscle relaxers ... all that stuff ... are real good when it works but - think about it - it is only treating the symptoms NOT the cause. Well, EFT doesn't make the weather any better (that's for sure!) but it can tell your body to heal things faster and it can help all those times when you feel really screwed up about things.

HI Owlwings: Oh I wish I could get down into the tub and take a long warm/hot soak I've not been able to do that since the car accident in 1996; I've always been a shower person but when giving the chance I love to be in Hot tubs now those are awesome I could live in one of them...LOL!! No place for one of them either where I live now nor the $$money$$ for one, I wish if I had one the whole block would be here wanting a turn...NOT!!! LOL! no with my neck and back injuries getting in and out of your bathtub is a long gone thing for me, if I did manage to get down in it, then I'd need a crane to come pull me up out of there...ROTFL!! Seriously! I bookmarked the links you provided thank you for that will go back and do some more reading when my head is less "foggy" still in a bit of pain killer relaxed mode; for the morning, It felt good though to be able to sleep and not wake up from my other aches and pains nightly, sometimes I just have to knock myself out like that to escape all the pain, poor old knees sure are swollen and bruised..OUCH!!! I will be really really careful when I leave this morning to go to the farm;

OUCH!!! Take care. It sounds like you have a lot of problems that you just live with (like we all do, I guess!) There are tubs you can get with a seat and a door which take up no more than a shower but, of course, they cost $$. There are even cranes, LOL ... I have seen them! I have a friend (or rather my daughter does) who is severely disabled and has been in a motorised wheelchair since she was 7 or 8. She has always had all the gear and I must admit that what you can get these days is just amazing. Here in the UK you don't have to worry so much about the cost because the Government is quite generous with grants and such. Her dad did design and build the wheelchair, though, for her and others like her.

Hi Owlwings, yeah I've seen those tubs and they are really cool looking, if I ever get to where I can own my own place again I would love one of those types of tubs I would just park in there for hours at a time (G)!! I could do that now I'm still cold from being outside dang blasted wind is blowing! bbbBBBRRrrrr!!!!

I am so sorry that you had a bad fall. I dread having an accident by falling. I think that we look to see if anyone is watching because it is so undignified. You had better get that knee checked out though in case it is something more serious. I hope that the pain killers have kicked in. Heat is very comforting so make used of the heat pads and try to sleep. Sleep is the greatest therapy for healing.I do hope that you feel better soon.Take care and blessings

I didn't realise that you suffer chronic pain. I am so sorry as a fall was the last thing that you needed. I am glad that you got a good night's sleep though. Take great care and don't worry about being a snail. Remember the story of the hare and the tortoise? Blesings. Have a good day

THis happened to me just the other day as well. My knees and lower back were is very bad pain for about three days. I switched back and forth from ice to heat, it seemed to work. I now am the owner of a very bruised knee, as well as a bruised ego because when i fell i was not alone.

Damn that sucks! I've fallen my fair share of times before, but never on black ice. I've only rarely even seen it as it rarely ices here. Still, I can imagine your pain and sympathize with it. I hope it gets better for you.

HI Zhuuraan: Thank you for that! Yeah that black ice is a stinker!! That's also why there are so many car accidents in the late fall and wintertime; I am able to move around so far this morning thank goodness I just cannot be down physically and not keep moving, I am the only one around here to help out with my Elderly Father and his health and errands as I do not like him out at all this time of year but he is so stubborn its hard to keep him INSIDE you know? But thank you for your kindness!!

Oh jan, I'm so sorry! I know how miserable those falls can be on that damn black ice! I told you that is also my fear and since I've already had a number of severe knee injuries, another one could be the end for me too! I am totally terrified of another fall on any part of my body. I've already broken my right shoulder and dislocated my knee twice and then sprained the same knee. My bones are brittle and one fall would most certainly mean a break of some sort. So I am afraid to even leave the house after a rain when it's cold because black ice is the worst! It's not like you can see the damn stuff! I feel so bad for you! I hope that when you do wake up that you will feel better. It was around this time last year that I had sprained my knee, the one that was dislocated twice and I spent the next 5 months walking with a cane. It was miserable. Please do take care.

HI {{OPAL}}, yeah we were just talking about this very thing the other day; It is scary and the bad thing is I can fall without notice or warning when I get those really staggering muscle spasms; Those too will knock you on your rear end or flat down to your knees: I always use a shopping cart to help me balance myself whether or not I need it, well I need it just for my purse too...LOL! I should just bite the bullet and buy myself a walking cane but I've not done that yet when I'm out at the farm I use an old broom handle it has this nice round part at the bottom and it works great to stick it in the ground you know while I walk to see to my pets at the farm, now inside it wouldn't do me any good as I'd still fall you know but outside that old broom handle is GREAT!! That saved me from falling a lot this summer stupid yard is full of mole tracks I think they have built themselves a race course by now all around the house, the old garden area the shed... the dogs dig up and kill them, the cats kill them and yet they still flourish... I won't let grouchy man aka My Dad put out those poisonous peanuts to kill the moles at least I try to keep him from doing that as it could kill my babies then I'd really BE HACKED OFF!! But the yard is just super soft from those darn moles!! ain't life grand at times?? UGH!!! I will be super super careful today when I leave for the farm...I'm sure there is more again and whether I think I need it or not this morning I will be carrying and spreading out ice melt on my way to my car... any of the neighbors that gawk and watch can just laugh and kiss my big old butt!! LOL!

So sorry that you fell and hopefully your knee isn't any worse from the fall but I am sure it is. You might should get it checked out if it continues to bother you. My daughter tripped and fell in her house and landed on her knee and was on crutches for awhile so I can imagine falling on icy concrete.

HI Tyc: Well its now friday, I spent most of the day yesterday in a zonked out mode and a foggy head when I did wake up; I am moving around very stiff, but moving around Thank God hopefully I won't have to go to the ER so long as I can keep moving that is; Today when I leave I'm going to be very very very careful around my car; Where I Have to park is right where part of my yard area is on a small hill which of course means any rain, any water, any ice or snow melting it all goes down to the concrete where my car parks and its that way for all of us on this block because of that friggin stupid hill so its very tricky out there this time of year...I hope that will be my only fall outside on the concrete; UGH!! YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY Most accidents happen right at home...No joke!!

I know just how you feel - at least in the sense of being afraid to fall, etc. Remember when I fell off those porch steps back in January and they thought I broke my ankle? They never did xray my foot - THAT'S where I think I did break something because I still can't wear most of my shoes and I'm still limping because that foot just aches and aches. Janice, Janice, Janice. I wish I could fix things for you.

Hey Girlfriend: I know I remember, same with me and my feet/ankles from my fall over a year ago out in the pasture, those bone fractures in our feet just won't heal properly when we have to be on them daily and you take care of your Mom and errands and I do the same for my Dad and my errands and his errands and doctor appointments and so on. There's no way we can just sit and prop up our feet for them to heal; I wish!! (sigh) so life goes on we just keep pushing ourselves but what shall we do right? I wish someone could fix things for me too, the last two weeks have just been MISERABLE! crappy cursed luck/life etc..etc..etc...

OMG I am so sorry for you! Falling on ice is one thing that terrifies me too. I've slipped and fell a few times in my old age and dang it hurts!!! And you are right, you struggle to get up as soon as possible so nobody will see you flat on your *ss. We got freezing rain and ice today too and I had to go to the doctor. I saw my sidewalk was all slick and needless to say, I went very, very slow and luckily I made it. I probabaly would not have went out at all if I hadn't had to go to the darn doc. Would rather stay home where it's safe and warm. Happy MyLotting! Char

Hi Char: Beautiful photo you have there, is that a shot of where you live?? Yeah falling sucks and then trying to get up is so badly but thankfully I had my car to balance my self on while getting back up; Crap speaking of doctors I need to call my chiropractor here in a bit and cancel my appointment for today, was supposed to go Monday canceled it because of the nasty weather and today is worse, where we park is on the north side too and it is SLICK SLICK SLICK there I did go there one day last week and it was very very slippery footing , of course the girl went out to pour salt as I was leaving thanks! It would have been better to have it BEFORE we all started to arrive; BE careful Char, you know the weather I get, is more than likely at your place too as it travels east now, north, north east;

Awww I'm so sorry you fell. I can imagine how that must hurt. I hope the pain meds kick in fast for you so you feel better soon. I fell a month ago in my kitchen. It wasn't concrete but still on the hard wood floor. I managed to have one leg out front and my left leg got twisted back behind me. I hurt for days, and was bruised from knee to ankle on my left leg. Its been a month now and that knee still hurts to kneel on it. I'm always falling, you'd think I'd be used to the pain. LOL

No, I don't go to chiros. I've been told by too many doctors that with my Fibro and the ruptured discs, plus spinal bone spurs that I shouldn't risk a chiro treatment. And yea, I did sorta do the splits, except I landed on my back, with my left knee bent up behind my back. That thing was swollen twice its size for two weeks. And the pretty colors didn't go away very fast either. LOL Hope you feel better soon - and don't fall again ok? :)

AWww {{Tess}}, I don't think we ever will get used to the pain we get from our falls, sorry to hear you had one too in your kitchen OUCH!! Sounds like you kinda did the splits there too...I bet your wrenched your lower back on that one too!!! did you go to a chiropractor or your doctor after that? We can screw up things in our bodies so quickly, I like to rest my left arm up on my window area you know? and today when I tried to do that my shoulder reminded me very quickly..IT HURTS to do that, so I had to rest it down lower.. very very sore there but so far my knee's are "acting ok" as far as that goes as I do have knee problems was just afraid I had fractured a bone or something there praise God I didn't that I know of; take care be careful now, I'll try to do the same...pffttt!!! Easier said than done right?

Gosh, That black ice is sneaky stuff. I hope you are OK when you wake up and are not too sore. Just last night I was thinking about how I have always wanted to ice skate. I am 53 and have already had some major spinal injuries. Your post has me thinking that maybe I will not try ice skating. Feel better soon!
• United States
5 Dec 08
HI Rhythmwalker: Yeah if you already have spinal injuries then I'd say a big NO to the ice skating...I love to watch skaters too, I love ice skating the "pros" but no I would not suggest going ice skating at all; With my neck and back injuries such as they are, I could wind up paralyzed at any time even when they work on me its risky, any certain fall, another crashing car accident, so many things could change my situation in a heartbeat but I'm not going to live in a glass bubble either you know? I'm 47 and feel like a 99++ year old and that's on a good day, if there is such a thing??? you know what I mean? What happened to your back? Car Accident?? Work accident?? Yes I will be very very careful this morning when I leave, very careful!! But I will stick to the young healthy people being on ice skates, the only time I ever even put on a pair of roller skates I was in the 4th grade ; I did fine all around the rink, went to go to the water fountain to get a drink and tripped on the damn rug they had there and landed on my right wrist broke that sucker had three bones sticking out of my arm there my Mother was screaming her head off at the sight of it...I've had arthritis in that wrist/arm my whole life since that accident and well now I've got osteoarthritis too all over but I'm here to tell you when that right wrist acts up there is no typing going on none at all... Nope I don't like roller skates at all not since that night...!! take care now and do be careful with your own injuries..it sucks doesnt' it? I could write a book on my pain from my neck and back alone!! maybe I should??

I am so sorry for your back pain. I had one just recently, but managed to recover through multiple means. Other than the various medicines the doctor will give you, I would suggest you be very strict to what you wear. Cloth and silk should be your preference, because other fibers are likely to cause static electricity, which easily leads to pain, at lease from my experience. Beside, eat more vegetables and fruits, and less meat, to balence PH in your body. Chinese medical theraphy is also good choice in this respect. One thing is very important, that is get relaxed as much as possible, better go out for a short vacation, which is what I did, a trip to Taiwan, one week of sunshine and change of environment quickly killed my pain.

Hi zhuhuifen; Well I wish I could afford a brief trip to well "anywhere" but no money for that I'm afraid, and too many health issues too; you do mention great advice and tips on here I wish I did eat healthier; My pain is permanent with my neck and back injuries I got from A (MVA) back in 1996 so anytime I fall now just makes it all worse and God Forbid, no more car accidents either as I could become paralyzed, that could happen too on falls...so its not fun, and its really scary when it happens; Happy Holidays to you;
