I used to collect stamps when I was young. In fact, unless the boys have thrown out the stamp albums or taken them, I have two albums of old stamps from before World War II. Most of the mail we get have those metered stamps on the envelopes, but we do get the occasional envelope with the old stamp and I still tear off that part with the stamp, soak it, and save the stamp. Why maybe my granddaughter might take up stamp collecting! So I was wondering whether you are like me and save the stamps even though you have long since given up stamp collecting as a hobby?

i DO HAVE A few stamps that i have saved through the years..I think stamp collecting is a very good hobby and you are right about your granddaughter.I am sure when she is old enough she will really enjoy looking at those stamps, and it might even encourage her to take up stamp collecting...I think that is a wonderful idea...

My sons never got interested in collecting stamps. With them it was comic books or hockey cards, maybe I should have got into the comic book myself, but I am the person who would read them not just let them stay in a plastic cover.

I never had the urge to collect stamps though I could remember some of my classmates collecting stamps. I guess, my interest just lies somewhere else and mostly they don't last long. As for now I collect ballpens, only purple ones and the ink must be purple or violet. I just love those with glitters. It might be too girly but it is what interests me for now.

I don't save them anymore. I used to save them when I was a kid, but until this discussion. I have not really thought about it. I don't really recall getting any stamps though. That is just crazy.

Whenever I go to the post office and I want to send an envelope or a package, I insist on them using stamps instead of the meter. Those high value stams like a $1 and 2$ will always be worth something and I hope that someone where I send it to will remove it and save it to give to a stamp collector. The common letter stamp because it is so common is rarely worth anything unless it has a defect. I also like to use the special stamps on my envelopes, the ones that are fancy, not the generic ones that everyone uses. You usually have to ask for these specially but they are always glad to accommodate at the post office.

No I don't collect stamps but you are right most now days every thing is stamped with one of those digital meter things. It is are that I get something with a stamp in it unless like a letter from family or friends. I am sure if you got your granddaughter interested at a young age she would be delighted to look love the stamps with you and maybe one day start collecting them and then you could pass yours on to her.

Hello suspenseful. I used to have the hobby of collecting stamps and I bought a lot of new stamps for my series of collection. I have two stamp albums in my study room and it is given to my son. Now as I don't write letters any more, it is hard to collect stamps and I don't spend money buying stamps any more. In fact, collecting stamps is good to us as we can learn so much from the stamps about history, arts, geography and so on. Thank you for your discussion, friend.

Yup. I still save them. I had penpals in the late 70s and early 80s from other countries. Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, the Netherlands, and Finland. That got me interested in stamps. I then joined those stamp clubs that would send me stamps to approve and I would return the ones I didn't want. I ended up collecting Lady/Princess Diana stamps from around the world. I was actually thinking about checking into their worth. I no longer use the approval companies. I still collect US stamps that we get. I really haven't soaked any lately but I do tear them off and tuck them away so that I could do that later. My husband always brings home any unusual ones that he may get in the mail at work. My mom has saved a few for me once in awhile too.
