One Hundred Dollars A Plate! |
| |
| Way back in the seventies, when I was working in the city full time, I was talked into purchasing a set of 'fine china.' The salesman was quite aggressive, I was very young, and well ... I made monthly payments on this china for several years. It is Bavarian china from Germany, and the pattern is called 'Bouquet.' The pieces all have platinum rims. A number of years ago, my (late) husband and myself, were at a home show. Much to our surprise my china was on display, and available for purchase. We decided to have the place setting appraised. We found out that 'each dinner plate' was worth $100.00. They had definitely gone up in value. My husband didn't think they should ever be used. He was so worried about them getting broken. Each year at Christmas, when we have our family dinner, we use these plates. So far, so good, as we haven't had any accidents (yet.) Do you have any treasured items such as this? Are there any that you only use on certain occasions? They don't have to be that expensive, but anything that you take out each year, to add meaning to your celebration? | | | | | |

| | Wow. That's some dinner service. We have a friend who has "Christmas Corckery" but whilst we have some individual peces, we have no set worth that much. I do have a Georgian silver tea pot. I don't think that we have ever had anything from it though. As a matter of interest. Isn't it the middle of the night where you are? Are you OK? | | | | | | |

| | Hello p1ke I often wonder about someonesmom as well. She seems to prefer posting Discussions in the middle of the wee hours of the morning. | | | |

| | I've reached the time of life where I understand what they are called the "wee" hours Trans. But I hope that she is alright. There's a number of folk here that will hold her hand and chat if she wants to say hello. | | | |

| | Apparently she falls asleep on the couch for a few hours and then when she wakes she checks her E-Mails and ends up on the computer for a couple of hours before she goes up to bed! Not a good practice I know but that is what she does pretty much every night! It does no good talking to her about this I've tried! ~Heavens~ | | | |

| | Well she'll read this thread I hope. But if you can then yes please. Put your arms around her, hug her close and say "that's from P1ke with love" and I would be very grateful. | | | |

| | Hi p1kef1sh, I really appreciate your stopping by here. I'm sure your Georgian silver teapot is lovely. It's actually just after 1:30 p.m. here now. I do myLot during the day too, but find that middle of the night experience very relaxing. Thanks for asking about me. Do you have Yahoo Messenger or MSN? If so, I'd love to chat sometime. Thanks too for the hug. One can never have too many of these. You've caught me Transdisc. I 'know' I shouldn't be up that late, but it's like 'heavens' has mentioned here. I'd never have thought of doing such a thing, when I was much younger. As for the starting of new topics 'then,' well I often think to myself (if I have a topic in mind,) I'll just start this one, and then go up to sleep. Heavens, thanks for the explanation for the 'gentlemen' here. I couldn't have said it better myself. Perhaps in the New Year, I'll make it a resolution to mend my ways, in this regard. Hugs. | | | |

| | Mom and Pye - I too kept daft hours until a very good myLot friend took charge of me. Now I get sent to bed by 10.30. I know that it sounds crazy, but it somehow appeals to the small boy in me and I dutifully trot off. I am so scared that she might stop it if I disobey that I haven't done so yet! I feel so much better for it even though it means that sometimes I miss out on "live" discussions. Heavens - Thank you so much. | | | |

| | Yes, we have paintings of Sylvester, Tweety bird, and many other characters that we bought at art auction. I also have signed DVD cover & poster of Cyndi Lauper. I have picture & signature of her as well. We have official RCA award from The New Radicals. The posters were promotional when she released her "Live at last" DVD, I'm not sure how much they're worth I'm sure at least 20 USD or more. The RCA award we bought it for 92 USD with shipping from eBay, these awards usually go from 100--500 USD depending on demand. I haven't got it appraised. We did get the art work appraised but that was a few years ago. I don't remember how much they were told to be worth because I will have to check with my records. By the way, I have a friend from Bavaria she's my pen pal. It's very nice to talk with her. Pablo | | | | | | |

| | Eventually I'd love to have a nice hutch with a nice set of china just for holidays but we haven't gotten that far yet. We are just getting things straightened out money wise and we still have so many things we want to replace from when we had foster kids...so many things got wrecked. I do have some very old dishes that have blue and white handpainted scenes on them but they have been packed since before we got into foster kids which was like 5-6 years ago. We've been out of the foster kids for like 3 years but their still packed b/c we were moving alot. Maybe when I get my hutch they can come out of storage. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD** | | | | | | |

| | Not me we have these cheap plain dishes we use for all occasions. And when we have company we use paper plates if we can get away with it. I hate having lots of dishes to wash lol. Im way to cheap to pay alot for dishes plus with my boys they would break my good dishes for sure. As it is im running low on my cheap dishes as they have been breaking them alot. | | | | | | |

| | Wow, that sounds like quite a set of dishes that you have there, someonesmom. Currently, all that I have in this regard is a metal plate that I bought and took to college with me when I left home when I was 18 years old. For some reason, I still have it and will eat on it from time to time. Perhaps I'll eat off of it today. | | | | | | |
