I need to start taking my own shopping bags, I have so many plastic bags from the store that I don't know what to do. I guess I could take them to the store to be recycled, but everytime I go, I always forget to bring them.

We take our own cloth and vinyl bags to the supermarket because our supermarket charges for the plastic bags and they are not as strong as the regular bags. It makes it easier to carry the groceries, and they do not rip. We did buy some black and green shopping bags from the supermarket, and they are now making a line of larger shopping bags, fold up in your purse shopping bags, shopping cart bags, etc. to give you a choice.

In the past, I normally go to the supermarket empty handed and when I buy things I just use the plastic bags that they provide for free. But just recently (a couple of months ago), in a bid to promote the use of their "green" (environmentally-friendly) reusable carry bags and reduce the use of plastic bags, the supermarket started charging 5 cents for every plastic bag given out to customers. This prompted me to start using my own "green" reusable carry bags every time I go shopping at the supermarket. Now I have a problem though.....I now have to buy my own plastic bags to use as bin liners because I used to use the plastic bags from the supermarket as bin liners....

Yes, we use our reusable bags whenever we go to the supermarket on weekends. I got them for free at our local supermarket. It is our way of helping save Mother Earth. But sometimes, when I buy things unexpectedly on weekdays, I usually end up bringing home plastic bags.

We talk a lot nowadays about global warming - pollution and sundry other words, and when it comes to act - we intentionally abstain from performing our duties. The same is correct for me, and I believe for many other people.
Carrying a shopping bag is one of the recommendations we hear a lot as it is more eco-friendly and it will have immense effect is pollution level of any busy city - but it is often deemed as an out-dated practice. We don't carry it, and I believe we should do.
It is nice to see that you carry your own bag. We had once witnessed a drive in a local market. Police would at that time impose penalties for carrying Plastic Bags in that market. But like most other good initiatives it did not last for long. And most of the shoppers are happy with carrying goods in the plastic bag given by the stores. We believe with constant campaign the harmful effect is known to everyone, and still, we are not going to change our habit.
Hopefully, the next time while going to market, I'll not forget to carry my own bag.

I use my own shopping bags that I bought from different stores, in that my cloth bags hold a lot more groceries and other merchandise in them than the paper or plastic bags, and I'm also helping to conserve resources and helping to protect the environment.

I don't bring my shopping bags to the supermarket, though I think it's better to do so, as I need the plastic bags to be my rubbish bags, so I don't bring my own shopping bags. I'm thinking is there anyway I can use my own shopping bags but still have rubbish bags, so that it can save the environment.

Hi Anne, We have done the same and I expect most people to be doing it soon. Supermarkets in this area are about to start charging for plastic bags and I agree with idea but I don't think that they are going to be charging enough. Plastic is very bad for the environment and it's use needs to be cut drastically. We should have started using cloth bags years ago. Blessings.

Hi anne! No, I don't take bags with me for two reasons! I
usually do a very large once a month shopping trip which
requires lots of plastic bags! Then I use the bags to take
my garbage out in them. We put the in the wastebaskets that
we have around the apartment. I have three small wastebaskets
that I use them for. There is one in the bedroom, bathroom
and one in the kitchen near the computer. So I really do
need to use them and it saves me from having to buy the
small wastebasket ones like I used to.
