Does anyone live in a apartment with noisy neighbors or paper thin walls?  

I have a apartment that I am renting. When I first moved here it was quiet, but about 3 months into my lease I started noticing the noise upstairs. There are at least 5-7 people living above me. The foot traffic up there is unbelievable. The landlord allows people to live there who aren't even on the lease. This building is old and can't handle this much traffic. The landlord doesn't care who lives here or what's going on as long as he gets his rent check. They drop heavy stuff on the floor continuously,they stomp,wrestle,move furniture,blasting full volume surround sound tv and stereos all the time. My kitchen and bathroom radioators actually shake when they walk or run. Yes, run. These people are all adults running in a apartment. The kitchen and living are the worse. I know what room they are in at all times because they wear steel tip boots, clogs and heels and walk back and forth between the rooms several times per day with them on. Partial to blame is the building construction. There is no sound insulation whatsoever. The landlord is too cheap to do anything about it. This place is from the 1800's and it needs serious updating. I can hear them chop veggies on a cutting board,rummagging and slamming of cabinets, laughing, talking etc. All this through the ceiling without opening my door. The manager thinks it is just me and I am lying about what is going on. My ceiling was leaking a few months back and he didn't believe that until the ceiling tiles started having water damage. When the plummers came to fix it, the hole in the ceiling was so bad that I could look up and see into the apartment upstairs. I also saw the 100 year old slats and nothing between each floor but cheap wood. Evidently he felt putting in a drop ceiling could hide all of this instead of renovating like it needs to be. From the outide everything looks nice, but I know it is just a facelift. I feel sorry for the next person who moves in here. I will not be renewing my lease on this place at all next year.
