Wierd/ Creepy earn from home option

Check out the following earn from home option :
SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.
Its so creepy to me, I don't think I will ever want to be involved in something like this, no matter the payout. What about you, my fellow mylotters??

As far as I know participants do not earn anything. This program has been running for several years and managed by a team from University of California. They seek volunteers to help them run this project. Basically we have to download a piece of software and install it.
The project is real but I do not think I would become a volunteer. The software uses a fair amount of system resources and some hard disk space. All I would get in return is my name in the list of participants. Definitely not for me.

oh? not sure about the earning thing then! in anycase, kinda scary to be a contact point for something you dont entirely know about!

can someone just try to stop earning from other sites? why dont you try to earn from your own blog/website?
