ONly last for two years and you have to buy a new digital picture frame viewer  

OMG I was thinking of buying a digital photo frame but i won't be if it only lasts for so long, that is awful, I hope it says that on the outside packageing, I think that is something you should be told before you buy it..thank you for telling us this i will watch the responses on here about the bigger ones to see if they are the same...thanks..

I do not know much about these at all. That is awful that it will only last for two years though. I think they should have made them rechargeable also. It is a money making scam.

Wow, thanks for telling me. Those picture frames are expensive and I would hope that the memory would last longer than that considering how much they cost. I am going to wait on digital picture frames for a while. I think they're going to get better and less expensive.

Are you talking about the kind on a keychain? My nephew got my sister and mom one and we were wondering how to recharge it... We thought it would recharge when they hooked it up to the computer to download the pictures.

I have a frame that's the size of a 5x7 frame and it's plugged in. I thought it would last "forever" but I guess now I have to do some checking up on it. I mean, these things aren't cheap, they should last quite a long time!

That isn't a long time to last. It would seriously have me thinking of not purchasing one now for sure. I had thought about it especially since it is my mothers birthday in February. Thanks for the heads up..I guess it is their way of making people spend more and more money in the long run those don't come cheap so I am thinking they should be made to be rechargable. The big ones might offer a rechargeable setup or I should hope or it is just a waste of people money. I guess in that case pictures don't last a lifetime..

Wow! That is good to know. I agree with another poster who says that little tidbit of info should be posted on the outside of the box.
But I thought the actual pic is stored on a memory type of flash drive, that is either built in, or on a card you plug in. So I can't help but wonder if the pics stay on the built in memory, but the battery power used to access them is the weak link? Some may have replaceable batteries that are considered user serviceable. Others, maybe not. Sort of like in a laptop, there is a (usually lithium) small RTC battery, that helps keep certain info like settings and time clock etc on file even when laptop is turned off.
So these digital frames may use something similar, and may or may not have a battery that can be replaced....depending on how deep you dig.

Just goes to show we should never assume eh? Always gotta try to stay one step ahead of the technology marketing race for our hard earned money.

I don't have a frame viewer, though I have wanted to get one. That is strange that they only last for two years. That seems to be how things are made anymore. Throw away~

I bought a digital frame as a Christmas gift, for my mother.
I wasn't aware it will be obsolete in two years...
I even paid extra for a two year extended warranty

Does it say that the device only lasts for 2 years or the warranty is for 2 years? There is a difference. The warranty means if it is faulty within 2 years of purchase, they will repair or replace it. If not, then why on earth would people buy something that is only going to work for 2 years? It just isn't in the best interests of the companies to make things that only last 2 years.
