Ok, this is a discussion I meant to start a couple weeks ago but totally forgot about it until - now for some strange reason.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I were at this little restaurant having lunch. They had a bar and one of the football games that was on was Fresno State vs Colorado State. Well, I looked at my husband, and being the little-miss-devils-advocate, I told him that Fresno's not a state so it shouldn't be called Fresno State. It could be California State at Fresno, because that's right. He said it didn't matter because what it means is that it's a STATE college. So I repeated that is should be California State at Fresno. He didn't like that at all and said "What about Towson State, that's not a state". Nope it's not! And maybe it should be Maryland State at Towson. There's University of Maryland at Baltimore, why can't there be Maryland State at Towson? Now, I was just being a smart-a$$ because it struck me as funny. But wouldn't you know it, a minute later, there's someone in the stands (oh, I think the game was at Colorado State) holds up a sign that says "Fresno's not a state". I about died laughing!!! My husband was just rolling his eyes.
Do things like that ever strike you as odd? Sayings that we have that really don't make any sense or aren't accurate???

reiny Fresno state is the only an hour from us. They do have a so so team and they do play all over especially in Boise.
I guess they call them Fresno State not to confuse them with other CA. state college football teams.

I know, but I was in a silly mood that day and it just struck me as funny. And sometimes I just have to be argumentative. Literally though, it's wrong and they should change it. Think of all the people all over the world that don't know Fresno's not a state. They may come to the US and say "Hey, we saw this football team from Fresno, I want to visit that state." hehehehehe

That happens around here too. All kinds of scandals with supposedly high-class people.

I would not consider any of the high classed. I think they need to treat the woman's sports as fairly as the mens sports and that would be the correct thing to do.

At least you got your confirmation that you were right in what you were saying when you saw the sign that said, "Fresno's not a state." I like it when I get confirmations. They are the best! But there are many things in life, that are wrong like that, don't make sence in the way it is portrayed.

I wonder how they think they can get away with it? Just twisting the language around like that? And they're a college for cryin' out loud! heheheh

Maybe it was one of the 57 states that Obama claimed to have visited, LOL. After all, America is a big, wild, new country and perhaps there are more states lurking out there waiting to be discovered.
I think it's so funny that someone in the stands obviously was thinking along the same lines as you! Smart-a$$e$ Rule!
