The Golden Compass - What do you think?

iam waiting for that to get released in my country and hit the theatre soon
wish to watch with friends and family members too.
the expectations are high here

I missed the movie, will have to add it to my NetFlix queue.

There was a lot of propaganda about the movie, people calling it anti-Christian, anti-God, etc. That didn't keep me away though, I just had too much going on at the time and missed it.

I haven't read the book, but watched the movie for the first time the other week. I've heard all the warnings about it so wanted some real quiet time to digest it. As far as how it was made, I think that's great. Plot? because there is a deep religious factor there to me I really don't have an opinion at this point.

It leaves the story open, so you don't really know where the story is going. There is good and evil at play there, just as in any great story, but I was left wondering what will happen in the next series.

I like the graphics but not the story at all. But to rate this movie, it's average. That's my opinion.

I have the books, and find them quite boring did not even finish the first one. However I really liked the movie. It did follow the book just about to a T. I didnt find it any more dark than Harry Potter, or Chronicles of Narnia. However in the last book it is said that they kill God. I will let you know how I feel about that when I get to it, and if that is really what happened.

I didnt think this was good as it could have been I was really looking forward to seeing it and then felt really let down by it!

I loved the movie, but I havent read the book yet. I went to the movie theater with a couple of friends and my sister... they fell sleep!! Later, we went to eat something and I was so excited discussin the movie, its special effects and Daniel Craig and I was shocked when they told me they didnt like it (go figure!). If I have the chance I would see it again... I loved it

If you ignore all the propaganda and watch the movie as if it were just an ordinary movie it is a very enjoyable action packed fantasy film with a common message found in so many other movies - don't let your world be ruled by an oppressive force.

Had the Christians kept their mouths shut about it being written by an atheist who specifically stated that yes, it was about killing God, the general public would never have known unless they knew about the author's statement. I'm sure that many people went to see the movie simply because there was so much hype. Whenever you raise a hullabulloo like that you're actually doing your cause more harm than help, in that you plant the seed of curiousity in those that would have been otherwise uncaring.

The movie's actual meaning only carries the meaning through if the person watching (or reading) has the knowledge of the author's views and statements. Otherwise there is nothing within the actual movie (other than the companions being called daemons and pronounced "demons") that would allude to God or Christianity. They do not blatantly call the oppressive force God.

Just as the Chronicles of Narnia is ABOUT Jesus Christ, one would not know this unless told. I read these books as a child and never knew it's correlation to Christianity until all the hype about the movie.

I thought the film was ok, but nowhere near as good as the book. If you haven't read the book I would highly recommend it.

i didnt see it purely because nicole kidman is in it. if you think the movie is that good maybe i should just read the books.
