How old should a child sleep by himself?

I was told a boy is leaning on his mother until 9 years old. A lot of Chinese boys are still sleeping with their parents or parent, though a child room is ready nextdoor. There must be a day to say no, but it is so difficult. He fears to be alone, not used to a separate room. What to say to help ease the fear, please advice, and thanks in advance.

In my opinion..and I have a couple..they must have their own bed from birth.I let mine sleep in the same room but in their own bed. If they learn to sleep with you..they will always want to.If you teach them they have their own place..they will use it. Naps..we took together but at night..everyone had their own place to sleep. It really helps to teach early no matter hoe much you want that cute little bundle of joy right with you. Independance starts at birth and it is up to us to teach it.

I think that you are right. If he sleeps from birth on his own bed on his own room he will learn not be scared and not to have any problem at all. will be on big trouble to have from birth to 4 or 5 years old on the same room..

One way to ease the transition for a child to go from sleeping with a parent to sleeping alone is for the parent to lie with the child in his or her own bed for a while, until the child is alomost asleep and then leave the room. It may take several attempts before the child will stay in bed to fall asleep, and he may get up in the middle of the night and try to crawl into the parent's bed, but if the paretn does not give in and takes the child back to his own bed eacj and every time, the child will soon realize that sleeping alone is okay.
