As some of you know, I finally got the digital camera that I have been planning to buy. Now I'm hoping to get started soon selling some of my crafts at etsy.com. A new adventure for me to be sure! Have you recently done something to "expand your horizons" so to speak?

Congratulations with getting the new camera and good luck with selling your crafts on etsy. My son and daughter-in-law are starting to do well on there. I came across something you might want to check out. The new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act which goes into effect Jan 20 will require every thing to be tested for lead. check it out at this web site

You may want to write and let them know how you feel.

Congratulations on getting your new digital camera because it means that you will be able to take the photos you need to display your crafts online. It will actually open up a whole new world for you in so many ways and of course the money you get for selling your crafts will cover the cost of your camera in a short time. For many years before I met my partner and for the couple of years after that she too did a lot of craft work of different sorts which she sold through a couple of craft shops in towns near us. She also made quite a bit to order and the sales of her crafts meant she did not always have to work outside of the home but could be there for her children. This was after she separated from her the father of her children.
These days she still does make some craft items but not a great deal is for sale. Most of what she does these days is for our adult children and grandchildren plus a few friends. From time to time she does some special orders but when that happens it is likely to be someone she made things for in the past or it is for a special occasion. The winter months are best for her as once it gets dark, she cannot be working outside so she can do her craft work while listening to music or whatever.
We do make jams, sauces, relishes, preserves and puree from our own home grown organic fruit and vegetables plus we will freeze some and also dehydrate some of these as well. Some of what we do is for our own personal consumption, some we give to family and friends and we also sell a reasonable amount. People who buy fruit and vegetables from us will often also buy the other things that we make. However I must admit that we do not tend to think of them as being crafts but rather a way that we can utilise our fruit and vegetables which would otherwise be thrown out. It is perfectly good food but maybe has been held in the cool room too long or has marks from where the fruit or vegetable has grown right near the vine or limb and so has a mark from that.
Good luck with your new enterprise rockerj1 and I wish you every success.

I have used Etsy and Ebay for my crafts. Etsy is cheaper to post items than Ebay but I still prefer Ebay.

I think that is wonderful that you are going to start selling crafts on etsy.com. It is a site that I have been looking into as well, to sell my beaded earrings. I just need to sit down and actually make some. I'm waiting a bit, until I have the money to buy more beads. I already have the digital camera, so glad you got one as well. As for broadening my horizons, I plan to do more writing this year and start a blog about writing and my writing process and progress.

I am thrilled for you that you finally got the digital camera that you have been planning to buy.
Is it not so fun?
I love my digital camera and has helped me get my crafts online also.
I am happy to read that you are planning on getting onto etsy.com.
Nice!
I have been planning on doing the same thing.
I have been using www.freewebs.com because they have widgets that allow me to easily implement PayPal for payments.
I am thinking of going to etsy.com, with my own crafts but also for a friends as well.
Two-in-one sort of a thing is what I have been thinking.
Yes, a new year, new horizons. I am thinking of working more with the public this year.
Dust off some tools hung some years ago and embark on an old trade or two.
Times are getting tough all around.
We must do what we can to stay a float so to speak.
I hope that your new endeavor is a successful one for you.
Best to you for 2009!

As of now, I am starting a new business in selling and my business partner is now acquiring all the stuffs that we need and will shipped it out to me within two weeks. I am in constant communication with her and I am in charge of the marketing and the procuring the license/permission needed for me to operate. Hoping and praying we will both do great! Good luck!

Its great that you are going to sell stuff online. By now have you started? In the past I have made some bookmarks and sold it in ebay. I am still selling stuff in ebay but not those bookmarks anymore. Well........I would say to you welcome to the world of online selling where it is fun and challenging at times. But one thing I must say.....everything is dealt through the pc so the stress is not so much as in dealing with buyers face to face. We can just ignore some buyers and delete their mails if they get rude or nasty but face to face we have to deal with them. All the best to you !!!

Hi ya rocketj1
What sort of crafts are you going to sell? I don't think I would be confident enough with anything that I made to be able to sell anything. Let me know when you do start to sell them so I could have a look and maybe buy something. Will you be shipping to the UK?
