clean under her bed!!!
Yep - southern california shook for a few seconds on Thursday night about 8 and it was 4.9 about 20 miles from me. They seem to be coming a little more common these days! It was the first one my 8 yo grand daughter had ever felt and she was scared, but as she receited what happened and what they did... she knows what to do if the is a serious one to our immediate area. She even told me she wanted to clean out under her bed so if it happens at night, she can just roll off the bed and roll under it!
Are we to think there is some good in earthquakes? How often does your child OFFER to clean out under their beds?!?!?

That is too funny.
We have had a few quakes near our Northern California home every now and then over the past 30 years, but of late they are coming in clusters and I find that more scary, although the geological folks say it is good because that lets loose some of the build up and that if they didn't cluster then is when we should be concerned.
Well, dunno if it is because our building is getting older or me, but the ones in recent years seem sharper. Instead of rumbling and shaking it is like a jolt.

Yeah, something good actually came from an earthquake! Bless her heart!
Yeah, they have been coming al ittle more often down here too. Rollers and shakers and jolters. Each a very differnet quake! We had on few months ago that was a roller and I live on the first story of a 3 story apartment complex - and boy this apt was a-rolling! I was so shocked and amazed that I just stood there for a minute amazed at the rolling effect I felt! It was rather interesting! ANd it rolled for about 1 mintue - doesnt' sound like much in writting, but if you are in the roller...it seems like hours!
They do say it is a good thing for the small ones to happen and relaese some of the stress. And they are building buildings with great earthquake architect these days, not a single thing in the complex was moved by it. Well, I called the office later and asked of any reports and they said, not a one.

Not very often when my girls were little thats where everything went when I made them clean their rooms. It is a great thing that she knows the plan of action if there is ever a time that it is needed. Here in Missouri it is Tornadoes and I have seen them do plenty of distruction. You be Safe,God Bless and take care you and your family.Have a great night.

It is the best hiding place for anything! We lived in West Texas and watched those tornadoes touch down and hop across the plains.. missed us every time but did hit some other towns. At least those you can see coming and can get to safety. Earthquakes...talk about the ultimate surprise!

Earthquakes are one of the reasons I wouldn't feel really comfortable living on the west coast. I thought if I Had to move , I would never pack my treasures and I would set my bed in the middle of the floor.I am glad you weren't hurt. Talk to you later.

I would be in the doorway in the fetal position even with a little quake.

We had another one today - about 40-50- miles west of me - in Reseda, CA. Around noon-ish time. 3.something on the richter...they didn't interupt tv to announce it, just played a little blurb at the bottom of the screen.

I felt it and I'm in Hemet. Thank goodness it didn't last very long and no aftershocks here. You're closer to San Bernardino, so probably felt it much stronger.

In Hemet the hills might have absorbed some of the shock too. This one was definately a shorty and shaker! IT was only maybe 10 seconds, but as you probably know... those 10 seconds can feel like 10 minutes!

I felt it in Hemet and was glad it was brief. Since you're closer, you were probably more shook up than me. Yeah, they seem to be getting more common. I hope for no more in a few years. Hope it's not a fantasy.

Remember that one we had last fall and the epicenter was in Chino Hills? I felt that... big time... I am just north of that. But It was a roller! But I was really surprised this apt buliding (2 years old) rolled but not a thing fell. THe buildings are built better these days with EQ's in mind so hopefully that will help when the "big one" hits - I live on the San Andrea Fault line!

I sure do remember the Chino Hills one. Again, here it was mild. Gee, I never thought about the mountains taking some of the brunt. I hate moving. I might consider it if I lived on the San Andreas fault line.

Wish I had thought of that years ago, but the entire family is here! The Ontario INternational Airport is on the fault line to as well as a maximum security prison and an electric power plant!
