Hi,
I was wondering how many people have actually tried sweet potatoes baked. If you haven't you should really give it a go.
They may be a little sweeter, but when you slap on a dab of butter and a little cinnamon, oh wow, they are fantastic.
I still have to say though a good baked potato can be hard to beat, especially with the number of combinations you can come up with for them.
I rememeber not to long ago a shop was actually created called "Spuds" that sold huge baked potatoes that you could have topped with what ever topping you could come up with. Yum.... At first I thought they were a little high priced until I saw the size of the potato and the potential.
So, do you like the good ol' baked potato or the sweet potato?

Your question reminded me a forgotten dish.
In my school days, my mom often gave me baked sweet potatoes topped with mere sugar. It would be very hot and we were fond of eating it hot.
We've tried this with my son and he refused to even taste it.

So many people only know the sweet potato baked with brown sugar or maple syrup and topped with marshmallows. But I like to have them bakes as you described with salt pepper and butter. Never tried them with cinnamon but think it might be good. So I'll try that the next time I make them. We like baked potatoes too with just about any thing you can imagine on them. I like broccoli and cheese myself.

I love them both. With sweet potatoes I mashed them like regular ones and serve them for dinner like you do regular mashed potatoes with butter.
Regualar potatoes we do them all kinds of ways. I keep sour cream, chives, bacon bits and cheese. They are a good snack for after school.
My kids pop sweet potatoes and regular in the microwave after school.
And because they all have diffrent taste the put whatever they want on them.
You can also put salt and butter on sweet potatoes it actually taste very good.

I think for Asian people, baked sweet potatoes is a famous food. I like to eat sweet potatoes, whether it's baked, steamed, boiled with soup, or even fried. I actually prefer baked sweet potatoes to baked potatoes, as sweet potatoes are sweeter, and they can be eaten as dessert.

In my opinion nothing beats a good baked potato, and the Spuds yes I have seen and eaten them, I workded ina resturant where they made stuffed baked potatoes, with every thing from seafood on them to what ever you liked. They was a bit expensive, but oh so good. I love baked sweet potatoes too. I top them the same way as a regular baked potato and they are good for you. I try to buy a few each time I buy groceries. A nice change sometimes.

Do I really have to choose? I'm not much on candied sweet potatoes, which is the only way I'd ever eaten them when I was growing up, but I love baked sweet potatoes with a little butter, salt and pepper. I don't care for cinnamon on veggies usually, but maybe just a tiny bit of nutmeg.
Your "Spuds" shop sounds like Jason's Deli here. The first time I ordered I got a "Plain Jane" which was anything but plain, had butter, sale, pepper, cheese, bacon bits and onion on it and it was HUGE! I learned that a half a Plain Jane was a smaller potato and just right for me. I like just baked potato with butter, salt and pepper. If the potato is too big for me to eat it all, I can put the leftover in the fridge and for another meal, put a little cooking oil in a skillet, mash the baked potato up flatten it in the skillet and cook it to a golden, crispy brown patty and it's delicious that way too.

Nah, you don't have to choose. :) Looks like you got the right idea.
I wonder where these places find the giant potatoes. Would be kind of neat to find them. Make an entire meal for the family. Then again, I might need more than just one, having 3 teen boys does that to your grocery bill.
