Golf club employees charged with overserving crash victims |

| How far should the net be cast when it comes in people drinking and then getting beind the wheel? Who is truly responsible? The individual, the server, the club, the bartender?? Should there be a law that states a limit to the number of drinks sold per person or that keys be removed at the door??? In the case of this news story 3 people died because they chose to drink and not have a designated driver, but their actions are hurting the lives of so many more. Whats your opinion?http://www.theglobeandmai... | | Drunk Driving | | | | |

| | I have mixed feelings on this. As adults we should be responsible for our own actions. However I have seen instances where as a bar owner I would have refused service to an individual and they did not. On one occasion I saw an obviously pregnant woman being served and continuously consuming alcohol. If I had been the bartender I would have refused to serve the woman because I felt it was the wrong thing to do. I know the purpose of the bar is to make money but at some point they have to say enough is enough. | | | | | | |

| | I always comes to when is it breaking the law to breaking freedoms of rights. Why do people feel exessive liquour is a cool thing and wont cause harm. It is like these people are missing a few brain cells of common sense and responsiblity. | | | |

| | This is yet another example of the 'poor me' society we live in. There is no personal responsibility for one's actions. Prohibition was a wash in the 20's. But they had the right idea. I have no use for booze or anyone who drinks it. I can guarantee that if I was the premier of this province, rules regarding the sale of alcohol, would be tightened considerably and drunk drivers would be treated like the useless wastes of good air that they are. Sales of alcohol at golf courses and other sporting events would cease. Restaurants would be more restricted and bars would pay through the nose for licences. Booze would not be prohibited, but it would be restricted more. | | | | | | |

| | I totally agree, since the person can't is dead he/she cant been proven guilty or innocent in front of a jury of his/her peers for they go to the next closest person who helped him/her get to that point. It is like the man who comitted mass murder with a gun and they also blammed the gun manufacture and seller for selling and making the gun. Totallly rediculous!!!! | | | |

| | I had done law classes... and in the case of this incident.. i think the restaurant is liable for the accident... i read in my book.. that if the owner of the restaurant sees that a customer is drunk and is incapable of driving... then they have to call a cab for the customer.. and prevent him from leaving... since the bartender and server work for the restaurant... they should be trained in all this as they work for the restaurant.. in this case a club... quote "the employer is liable for whatever the employees does during work"... so the owner should know that you have the right to refuse serving alcohol to a customer if you see he is almost above his alcohol limit... | | | | | | |

| | If I choose to drink I should be responsible for my actions. The reason bars and bartenders are being held responsible is called deep pockets justice. It gives the "victums" more people to sue and lawyers more money. Why should the bartender be responsible for some one else behavior. | | | | | | |

| | The problem in this country is we have too many lawyers that hold everyone accountable for someone's actions but the person who committed the action. People who are old enough to drink must know that drinking and driving is dangerous and stupid for starters, if they decide to drink and drive they are deserve what they get -- what angers me is when they inflict their stupidity on someone else. Anyone who drinks and drives deserves to be punishment, even if no there are no accidents or no one is hurt. Loss of license or house arrest might serve as a deterrent to this type of activity. Limiting drinks - is that 3 drinks in an hour or 3 drinks through the evening maybe spanning 3 or 4 hours if people go out dining and dancing. And if there is a 3 drink limit, what is to stop someone from bar hopping - 3 drinks here and 3 drinks there and pretty soon someone will be real drunk. Taking someone's keys...what happens when a set gets lost or someone claims that there house was broken into as a result of this action. Designated driver - no problem...my friend is coming to get us or we can call a cab. People must be responsible for themselves!!! | | | | | | |
