Which anti-virus to choose? |
|
i have been using AVG 8.0 Free edition for the past 6 months and it seemed to work fine but lately i have noticed that it doesn't heal infected files it just deletes it. Recently i installed it in one of my friends PC which was full of viruses and Trojans as soon as it updated i initiated a scan for the entire pc it caught like 50 viruses and Trojans and it even caught some system files and when i pressed the button to heal those files it says that some files cannot be healed and if force cleaning is applied the system will crash. I am really wondering should i shift to another anti-virus please any good anti-virus recommendations from various anti-virus users.

vikram3101989 (386) | 1 year ago | yes it has a good detection rate but the annoying thing is that it doesn't heal infected files with .exe extension strange but true. I am looking to move to some other anti-virus thanks for your response.

vikram3101989 (386) | 1 year ago | Yes i read it that Bit-defender has the highest detection rate when compared to other popular brands but it is not that popular in download.com is it secondly kaspersky is good too which has good detection rate but it really slowed down my new PC even with a configuration of 4 gb ram and 2.4 ghz of core 2 duo processor i will surely check bit-defender in the coming months thanks a lot for your timely response.

3. ronaldinu (7779) | 1 year ago | I would recommend AVAST. It is free and it is really efficient. It also takes less resources than any other anti-virus. If I were you I would give it a try. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

vikram3101989 (386) | 1 year ago | I totally agree with u vaibhav AVG has a good detection rate u should have noticed that it doesn't heal infected files but sends them to virus vault or just deletes them but when u look at Mcafee and Norton they heal files which are infected isn't it so i am considering moving other brand of anti-virus thanks a lot for response

5. dolphin2406 (693) | 1 year ago | i find AVG very good. if a file cannot be healed it will move to vault. i dont like when that happens but maybe it cannot be healed so better deleted than infecting the pc

vikram3101989 (386) | 1 year ago | Yes AVG free as well as paid are pretty good but they just cannot heal infected files can they they just send them virus vault or they directly delete them i find that tough to digest though i like it i am considering moving to either to NOD 32 or Bit-defender as kaspersky is too heavy on resources thanks a lot for your response and keep mylotting.

6. jason1308 (1021) | 1 year ago | I use to use AVG, a few years ago and never had any problems with it, but for some reason, and I can't remember why, I changed to Avast, a free install for home users, and have never had any problems with it.
It updates itself regularly, and seems to keep all problems at bay.
I think that its as good as any other, and remember that a lot of these trojans etc only get through the safety net because you invite them on there, so you always have to be aware of what you click, before its too late.

7. howardskip (2023) | 1 year ago | Well, when my PC was infected with hundreds of virus for the first time, AVG save me although I formatted my PC that time. Since then I am using it, I did change my AV for several times already but the satisfaction I had with AVG weren't experience with other AV... As an alternative, I also used Avira coz like AVG it is free and reliable... Now, as an alternative AV I would recommend Avira, Avast... Please do try it first if it works...

vikram3101989 (386) | 1 year ago | well i am using AVG free for 2 years without having any problem but i really hate it when it deletes all infected files without healing them as far as avira is concerned it really slows my PC and avast with its annoying interface and sound alerts i am considering either nod32 and kaspersky thanks a lot for your response.

8. badzvenom (103) | 1 year ago | I think that is the weak point of some antivirus. It doesn't heal infected system files, but rather gives you the option to quarantine or delete it. I think avast has this feature to create a database of system files so as to restore such file when infected with antivirus. However, if the files were infected before you install it then it is useless. If the files which were infected are the operating system files, say windows xp, i think you can restore/repair those files using the windows xp installer. I find avg low in memory requirement but weak in detecting virus compared to other antivirus like avast. Avast is nice but when i compared its memory usage with other antivirus like avira, I would prefer avira.

vikram3101989 (386) | 12 months ago | i think that's the only back draw of using free anti-virus or AVG anti-virus that sit doesn't heal infected system files i think avast does heal infected files alright but its annoying interface is the problem and the sound it makes after it catches a threat is the thing that keeps me away from avast as far as avira goes it is pretty slow in scanning and consumes a lot of resources as u have mentioned thanks a lot for your response i will give it a thought if trying either avast or nod 32.

vikram3101989 (386) | 5 months ago | I read about it comodo has good features and it has one of the best firewalls in the world but the rest of it is not too good and o used zonealarm once and i was impressed by it but it was a resource hog an the avg 8 is good but too many false positives and avast is good too thanks a lot for your response and sorry for the late response.

rosdimy (1908) | 5 months ago | I do agree that the antivirus part of CIS is not the best. NEvertheless the latest version is a lot better than the previous version. So far it has managed to detect vituses which it was unable to sniff out before this. In its paranoid mode suspected viruses are flagged, and the user is given the option to have it deleted, ignored, or quarantined.

10. rrobinv (144) | 1 year ago | I use AVG as my anti-virus software too. However, I will also install Avira as my gatekeeper. In fact, the current virus always attack the system file and registry. It is easy for anti-virus software to recover the registry but it is difficult to heal the system file. Most system file will lock when you are using the operation system. That's why you cannot heal and recover them. You can try to turn on your computer with safe mode of your operation system. It may help you to prevent lock of some system files. Moreover, you can download the virus removal tools from the anti-virus official site. It can help you to remove virus and Trojans too.

vikram3101989 (386) | 5 months ago | i too thought that AVG and Avira were good but too many false positives and the latest version of AVG made my system crash so i am worried about using free anti-virus and i have sued some virus tools of Mcafee and Avira and i am actually impressed by their scanning speeds thanks a lot for your valuable input and sorry for a late response.
