Cold in Florida and the furnace has brain damage

Ok, I know I'm going to get LOTS of pity from you guys up north who are dealing with sub-zero temperatures and here I am whining about it going down into the 30s tonight...BUT....our furnace is giving us a hard time. The heat comes on just fine but the blower doesn't work on Auto so we have to set it to On, which means it runs forever. We can get it up to 85 degrees in here and it won't shut off! So, last night I got it toasty warm in here and we went to bed. This morning it was 68 degrees in the house. I know....awwwww, poor thing! Since we only use the furnace a couple of times a year it's not worth the money to get the stupid thing fixed so I guess my tootsies will be cold tomorrow morning when it's supposed to be even colder down here. Is anyone else dealing with an uncooperative heating system? Why can't things just work like they're supposed to.

Our burner malfunctioned 2 weeks ago so we had 2 days without heat. We used space heaters until it was fixed and at night I have electric mattress pad that I turn on to heat the bedding before I go to sleep ( I turn it off after I get toasty warm as I would overheat from the down comforter. 68 is hot for us in winter. Why not invest in a few space heaters, or an electric blanket? My Mom lived in Clearwater and their house had a real fireplace.

We have an electric blanket which is the ONLY thing I like about these cold snaps because there's nothing better in my opinion. My husband has to have the ceiling fan on regardless of the weather but it's nice and toasty under the blankets.

Yeah once I crank up my mattress pad, I jump in and it is so toasty warm. I really do have to turn it off because the down holds in the heat all night. But getting out of bed is hard when it is so cold. Today I skipped an office meeting and snuggled back under the covers.

LOL I would welcome 30 F LOL we are at 9 F right now and it is probably gonna get colder tonight. I have in the past had to deal with furnaces not working but I always had a woodstove to keep me toasty warm. Make sure you bundle up.

We had a wood stove in one of the house we lived in in Maryland and I used to love the smell of wood burning! You brought back such nice memories. I hope you warm up soon!

Well it is 37F so yes we have warmed up. This temp is so much better than what it was. I can't wait to be in warmer climates.

what are tootsies? I have a fireplace and touch wood it is still in working condition up till now even if i had to find wood or buy it in order to have my place heated. I do think it is much cheaper than using an electrical system.

Tootsies are those ten frozen things that were on the end of my feet before I turned the heat back on! When I lived in Pa. we had a fireplace and I loved it but it wasn't very effecient so we bought a wood stove insert which gave off a lot of heat. I still love the smell.....

OMG Cher I don't know how you guys can take cold like that! Even when I lived in Maryland my sinuses hated the cold weather and it started to feel like it was going right through me as I got older. It gets hot as he11 down here in the summer but you can't beat the winters...usually.

I'm sorry that your furnace is broken, I think 68 is cold for inside, I like to keep mine at 74. 30 would feel like a heat wave to me right now lol. sometimes my furnace quits working but we call maintenance and he has to come right out and fix it.

Last winter I think we used the furnace two or three times which is why my husband doesn't want to spend money hiring someone to fix it. He says as long as we can get it to work...even if it's not working right...that's good enough for now. Fortunately, it's supposed to warm up by the end of next week. I hope you warm up soon too.

Well I have been through this. It was last January. I rent the house that I live in. Well the gas man came to replace the meter because they said that it needed to be done. So he came into our house to turn off the gas to my furnace. He said that my furnace was broken and had to cut the gas to the house, so we had no furnace. It was -35 degrees celcius here. Anyways it took my landlord a week to get it replaced. We had exotic pets here and kids, so we had to use baseboard heaters and our oven to keep the house warm.

Wow, I know that had to be rough! I remember when my two oldest kids were little we had heating problems in an apartment we lived in and we all hung out in the kitchen with the oven on. They and my ex slept on the floor and I sat up all night to make sure nothing caught on fire. It was an electric stove but I couldn't take the chance.

Sorry to hear that your furnace is being a pain. If ours were to go out or act up I would sell my children to get it fixed This morning when I woke up it was -20 wind chill and tonight the actual air temp is suppose to be -9. Hope you stay warm!

Hey spalladino! Yup! I up here in NY, where the artic air is blowing and it is a balmy 21 right now and that is a heat wave compared to what it will be like when it gets to be morning and the snow arrives bringing with it some cooler temps! I do know how you feel because you guys aren't used to it being that cold there and it is a shock to your system! I know being in the 30's for Florida is really cold! My Mom complains when she has to use the "heating system" too! She says the same thing that you are saying! Florida is just not meant to have to use the heating systems so they never work right! But, my landlord doesn't ever believe that it needs to be even 68 degrees inside so for me that would be really nice! I am sitting in my kitchen/office with the oven on! This is the warmest spot in the apartment! Smart of me to make this my office huh? Actually, it was the only place to put the computer! Lucky for me I don't pay for the gas! Oh no! It just dropped a degree! I have the weatherbug on the computer so I can see it while I'm typing! Great! I'm sitting here with my hoody on, hood up and all! It's now 2:00am and I need to go into the bedroom, which is the the coldest room except for the bathroom, which really feels like you're outside! My boyfriend has the comforter over his head so you can't even find him! The cold doesn't seem to bother him! Well, stay warm! Hope the heater cooperates!
